  • New to IVF and full of questions, concerns and worry

I started the birth control pills yesterday and the medications will arrive on Saturday. I have my first ultrasound on August the 5th and should start the Lupron then. I have been reading the previous post and I am a little concerned about all the things I have read. My first biggest question is Why the baby asprin? What does this do? I am a little scared right now as to what I should expect.

    Hey there ~

I just wanted to welcome you I did a cycle in December and I had the same anxiety that you do. I think the most important thing to remember as you go through your cycle is to try an relax as much as possible, it will only benefit your outcome. That being said, let me tell you about some of the things you might experience so that maybe it won't be as scary. When your medications arrive it might be a little overwhelming at first but just take it one day at a time. Create a daily checklist of your meds if the clinic doesn't give you one, it will help you keep track of what you have taken and what you still need to take (because there are usually differrent time frames throughout the days/weeks in which you have to take the meds). I did all of my injections in the tummy area and it didn't really hurt, just some stinging. There are some injections toward the end of your cycle like progesterone oil (which I personally didn't take) that you have to do like in the buttock area and I heard it is more sensitive there (it might help to ice the area first?). You might start to feel different emotions when you start the meds, everyone reacts differrently it seems. When you get closer to retrieval time, there will be blood draws that could potentially be every day for about a week along with ultrasounds to see how your follicles are growing. Once your follicles are ready they will do the egg retrieval, I didn't have much pain after the procedure, just some slight crampiness later that day. And then 3-6 days later they will do the transfer which is fairly simple, it's sort of like the experience you would have if you were getting an ultrasound or pap smear. I know the unknown can be scary and I hope this information helps to ease your fears. Something you might want to consider while going through the process is acupuncture. It is very calming and also has been reported to be beneficial for the outcome of a cycle. Good luck to you!!

P.S. I'm not sure why some doctors prescribe baby aspirin, I was not prescribed it. But I have heard of many people having successful cycles when taking baby aspirin as part of the regimen.

Hello! It sounds like you've already been given lots of good advice and info. I hope that it eases your anxiety some. This can be a very exciting time but it can also make you very nervous. I would suggest doing whatever you can to relax. We've done 3 IVF cycles. The first two worked, but ended in miscarriages by 9 weeks. This 3rd time, I took baby asprin and did acupuncture and am now 18 weeks pregnant! I think that the asprin combined with being much more relaxed this time were the keys to our success. I wish you tons of luck and hope that you'll keep us updated!
