  • Any "Poor Responders" with Diminished Ovarian Reserve out there?

I'm trying to decide whether to try another IVF cycle. My last two IVF cycles (August and October 2008) resulted with just one viable follicle per cycle which was determined to be "eggless" during the retreival process. My first two cycles (March and May 2008) resulted in just two viable follicles per cycle, and we successfully retreived four eggs and now have three frozen embryos. My RE maxed out the meds (up to 725 IU of Gonal F plus lots of other shots) so I don't anticipate that a stronger protocol will change anything. The financial and emotional burdens are not reason enough to stop IVF. I'm just afraid I've run out of good eggs. Any ideas or similar experiences?

PS: I'm 39 and only have one ovary.

Hi there...I was also a poor responder...(success ment)

(and I'm also from the Chicago area After responding terribly to normal doses of meds at age 28, my RE pushed me up to 750mg (? is it mg? it's been a while) of Gonal-F, along with low dose hcg while I cycled, and also gave me a hcg trigger of 20000, not the typical 10000 based on my bmi. He called this cycle plan my "Hail Mary" cycle, because if it didn't work to get me to respond better, we'd be done. I got a bunch of eggs, and while many of them were poor, each time I ended up with 2 that made it to blast, and I eventually ended up with my 2 awsome sons. It's such a tough decision to make, though, since IVF does take a terrible emotional and financial toll. Being in IL, I assume you have coverage? If so, I'd consider trying one more cycle, maybe with a different protocol, since I think you can have 4 cycles covered???

Out of curiousity...who is your RE? I went to Morris, and liked him a lot...

    Best wishes!
    Amy
