  • *MC Mentioned* - Could low morphology cause RPL?

Hi Dr. Roseff - You might remember from my earlier post that I've had 3 miscarriages - the last 2 were due to chromosome issues (45x, 69XXY). I passed the Clomid Challenge test with flying colors so they don't suspect egg issues(I'm 29, DH is 30). DH just had his SA and the motility and count were well within normal, but the morphology was Kruger 3% (normal was 4).

Could low morphology be the cause of the losses? I've gotten pregnant the first time all 3 times - so the sperm are clearly getting to the right place. And all I've read is about low morpholgoy leading to infertility - in terms of not being able to get pregnant. But that's not happening with us. But could the morphology be affecting the embryo quality? And is morphology static - meaning does it change? Should he repeat the test?

    Thanks - Cyndi

    Hi Cyndi,
Glad to hear you passed the Clomid Challenge Test! While some experts find it controversial, I do believe that poor morphology can be responsible for a failed pregnancy -- Bad/abnormal sperm --> Bad/abnormal pregnancy. Consider having him see a qualified Urologist and take a look at the article I published on Pycnogenol.

    Good luck!

      Interesting article - thank you.

One more question - most of the info I've found seems to indicate that low morphology leads to infertility - meaning the sperm can't even get to the egg. Is that true? Would it be unlikely that a "bad" sperm could even penetrate the egg?

I guess I'm just curious b/c I keep hearing that chromosome issues are mainly cuased be the egg - not the sperm. Why would that be?

      thanks -Cyndi

        Hi Cyndi,

Bad sperm may either not fertilize an egg or may indeed fertilize an egg an increase the odds of a "bad pregnancy".

Chromosome issues can be caused by bad sperm, bad eggs, or both.

        Take care!

Truly, this article is really one of the very best in the history of articles. I am a antique ’Article’ collector and I sometimes read some new articles if I find them interesting. And I found this one pretty fascinating and it should go into my collection. Very good work!
