    Hi Kiran,

The HSG shouldn't affect midcycle bleeding. Can't tell you what to do next cycle since you're not under my care (and therefore that's illegal in the U.S.).

    All my best,

      General info

      Hi Dr Roseff,

      Thank you for your reply.
Ref HSG test-Though my tubes are clear, I would like to know if the radiologist can detect if there is any polips or fibroids or endo inside the uterus? I was out of town after the test and will collect my report tomoro however, was wondering if he can tell other details as well from the X-ray report?
I do understand about the illegalaties, however it would help if you could only part with a general information if IUI could be considered as an option here, since I have assumed my husband's sperm count is low.(Simply bcoz I do know for sure he would be against the idea of getting a semen analysis done-kind of psychologal threat to his masculanity..sorry to say this).

      Thanks/Kiran

An HSG, when properly done, should be able to detect polyps and fibroids inside the uterus with good accuracy. Since endometriosis is a condition in which tissue like the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, this can't be detected by HSG.

As a broad generalization, a woman may be a candidate for IUI if:
        a) the sperm is of good enough quantity and quality to effectuate pregnancy via IUI (IUI doesn't often work with very poor sperm);
        b) the woman is "young enough" (older women often need more aggressive treatment, such as IVF);
        c) the egg quality is good (as determined by cycle day 3 ovarian reserve blood and ultrasound testing); and
        d) the fallopian tubes appear normal by history and HSG.

        Hope this helps,

          Viability of eggs

          Hi Dr Roseff,

          Thank you for your reply.
Please advice if after HSG, its ok to try naturally for some time?

I would also like to know if by any medication or protocol during IUI can one increase the viability of eggs (for eg. the A/ACEP protocol etc) or this protocol is used only in IVF.

In general in older women, is GIFT better than IUI, is ZIFT better than GIFT, is IVF better than GIFT?

I would like to gather as much information from you(this inciid website) as possible so that I am aware of everything before I decide on how to proceed. It is true I can always read from books and net but I would not know where to find the books or if the info on net is really true, so thanks so much in advance for answering to all my queries.

          Thanks/Kiran

You need to follow the advice of a board certified RE who knows your history, physical exam, and test results, as I don't and can't properly guide you.

You are depending upon my advice to follow a course of treatment and that's not appropriate. If you want my further guidance, please feel free to schedule a visit here so I can best counsel you. It's simply not possible or legal for me to tell you what to do or not do without your being under my care.

            Wishing you success,

              paraffin oil and vasciline

              Hi Dr Roseff,

I have been reading over the net that vasciline base products kill sperms.

The past 1 year we have been TTC, my DH has been using vasciline and now I am getting the feeling that due to this I have not been able to conceive. Is my thinking correct?

Also is paraffin oil really sperm friendly? We do not get preseed in India so I guess I will have to stick to paraffin old. Please advise.

              Thanks/Kiran

Vaseline products are never recommended in the vagina.

I am sorry but I don't know anything about paraffin oil.

                  egg quality/PMS

                  Hi Dr Roseff,

                  Thank you for your reply.

I never use to get PMS symptoms and they started last year after taking clomid. The general breast tenderness, lowerback pain etc would take place until the periods arrived.
Aparently, this year I had mid cycle bleeding with mild to zero PMS symptoms and this month, I did not get any midcycle bleeding or PMS symptom.
Does it mean that my body is slowly picking up and the harmones are balancing or there is no ovulation taking place?
I have started taking vitamin B6 and B12 along with folic acid .
Pls adv if this will help me increase egg quality?

                  Thanks in advance

Most women who menstruate every month, regularly, are ovulating.

Vitamins B and folic acid don't improve egg quality.

                      No Period -pregnancy or perimenapause

                      Hi Dr Roseff,

My last month's period started on 11April where I bled for 10days and then had HSG done on day 12LMP.

I generally have short cycles of 23days occasionally with one long cycle of 38days which comes once in 4months.
This month, if I assume I had a long cycle,I was expecting my period on 18th May , however its now a week past that and I still have no period!
I was wondering if It could be pregnancy or perimenapause.

I do not have any classic pregnancy symptoms of nausea or tenderness in breast though sometimes I feel some sensation in my breast and very light lower back pain. I have not yet taken any home pregnancy test yet and I intend to wait for another week before I do so. Also my RE is out of town and will be back this wk end.

I do understand you cannot tell me without checking up but if you could give me general info on what could be going on, it would be of great help.

                      Thanks in advance
                      Kiran
