  • Why did my obgyn prescribe me Estradiol 1 mg?

Hello, My name is Vanessa. In 04-07 i had an etopic. Its been a little over 2 yrs now. No kids. No infertility reason. I am 30 yrs old and healthy. I have done several exams and everything is negative. Like hystopalpingagram, husbands sperm is good. Blood work count is good. Also did 1 month of clomid and nothing. My doctor prescribed estradiol to me for days 8thru 12: 6 tablets per day. I was reading about this and I am not sure if I should really start taking this? or Why she recommended it? Also shouldnt of she prescribed the clomid for at least 3 months? The problem is I can not call my gyno bc I would have to go in for a visit for these questions. My ins is cancelled till August. So I wanted some help!!! I am trying to get pregnant but am some what confused.. Pls advise!!Thanks in advance for your advice.
Sorry for the mis-spelling - BIG WORDS

    Hi Vanessa,

If you had an ectopic, you may have a problem with one or both of your tubes. Did you have the hysterosalpingogram AFTER the ectopic? Did it show both tubes are normal?

Some women on Clomid end up with a thin lining inside the uterus, and a thin lining can lower the odds of getting and staying pregnant. Sometimes, estrogen (estradiol) can help with this, but it's imperative to be monitored on Clomid with ultrasound exams to look at the uterine lining and see if it's thick or thin. Also, the ultrasound can see if the egg is maturing (inside a structure called a follicle) and also can help to pinpoint ovulation. Are you being monitored on Clomid? If not, that's a potential pitfall....

Finally, I'll say that if you ovulate normally and regularly on your own, then taking Clomid can possibly PREVENT pregnancy or increase the risk of a failed pregnancy. It's a drug that's best used in women who DON'T ovulate normally on their own. The package insert clearly states this....

    I hope this helps,
Consider seeing a board certified RE (instead of a gyn) when your insurance kicks in!!!

      Thanks for the quick responce!

no, I was never monitered while taking clomid... and as per tech and dr. HSG exam -tubes are clear no blockage. Do I have to be monitered while taking the Estradiol? Are you a RE? and is Willington near miami? does regular Ins. cover RE exams or visit or is that considered a specialist right? Is a RE the type of docter which does IVF and other treatments for infertility? Thanks Again, Vanessa

Sorry to hear you were not monitored on Clomid - it's SO important....

If you're taking estradiol and/or Clomid, then yes, you should be monitored.
