  • Second opinion on hsg (child mentioned)

    Hi -

We were diagnosed with male factor 4 years ago, after all of the female tests, too, including hsg. At that time, my dh's sperm count was so low, we had to go to ICSI IVF. The first round didn't take, but our first FET resulted in our baby girl who was delivered via c-section (she was breech).

Since then, we've done the last FET, and are now doing Clomid IUI cycles because my dh's sperm count has doubled (at 20 million). The first IUI didn't take and we're in the 2 week wait for the second one. The success of the current one is unlikely because my dh's count for the 2 days total was 11 million...too low with his abnormal sperm parameters.

Sorry for all of the background, but here is my question. Is it worth me doing another HSG just to make sure everything is still clear, as it was 4 years ago? Some time has passed and there has been a surgery. Our RE says absolutely, but it was an AWFUL procedure for me and I really don't want to do it again.

    Thanks for your opinion!

    Hi Patti,

Sorry to hear the HSG was so awful for you -- It tends to not be so bad for my patients when I do their procedure, so I'm wondering why it's so bad when you do it....

Do you premedicate with pain meds? Is your RE there to do it with you and for you, and does he/she do all his/her own HSG's?

I can't tell you if you should or shouldn't do the HSG, but will say that its normalcy can change over time. A C-section can cause scar tissue that can interfere with successful pregnancy, too....

    Hope this helps,
