  • ovulation and iui timing question

I gave myself a hcg injection last night at 6 pm. This morning my bbt was elevated. I am due to have iui tomorrow at 9am. My concern is that the egg will no longer be viable if I ovulated this morning. So I guess I would like to know about the best timing for it all. My doctors nurse left a message for me that the hcg shot made me ovulate and my appointment tomorrow is right on time. This seems odd to me from things I have read about the egg living up to 24 hours only. I am not able to talk to my doctor before tomorrow. Should I have a progesterone check before my iui tomorrow? Could you please explain to me to process and timing of ovulation, hcg shots, elevated bbt, and iui.
Thank you so much for your time. It is wonderful that you donate your time to help those of use with so many questions.

The hCG injection triggers the process of egg maturation and ovulation to occur. Progesterone starts to be produced right after the hCG shot, and it's the progesterone that causes the BBT to rise. The egg doesn't generally get released from the ovary (ovulation) until an average of 36-38 hours after the hCG shot. The egg can't be fertilized until it is ovulated (released). So, we time the IUI for about 36 hours after the hCG shot.

I hope this helps explain it,
