  • uterine adhesions

    Hello Dr R,

I had a D&C a few months ago due to pregnancy loss in the first trimester (10 weeks). Last week I did a SHG to check my uterus before I do a FET. The lining looked good, but there were a few adhesions seen in the corneal area. The RE said they were very mild, but thought they should be removed by hysteroscopy and cutting the scarring with scissors. I am still getting a regular moderate flow period.

My question is, do you sometimes see patients with mild adhesions and then have successful pregnancies after removing the scarring? Is it difficult procedure (hysteroscopy to remove adhesions)? Should it be done by someone with alot of experience with Ashermans if it is mild? I trust my RE, but I only have one uterus, and seems like a hysteroscopy could make the adhesions worse possibly.

    Thanks for your help-

Yes, most patients have successful pregnancies after removing mild scar tissue, if that was their issue. It's not a difficult procedure to remove mild scar tissue. I think it's ALWAYS best to have a procedure done, no matter how easy, by someone who is an expert in the procedure, if possible. Why not!

      Uterine Polyps

My question is similar to the previous... in Feb 2010, I had a D&C due to losing my baby at 9 weeks. After that, my OB discovered uterine polyps which I just had removed last week. Could this of been the cause of my miscarriage? It seems like my dr.'s are having a hard time answering this question.

      Thanks so much!

        Hi,

The most common reason for a failed pregnancy is a genetic abnormality of the pregnancy. However, if polyps are large enough, numerous enough, or located in the area where pregnancy grows, they can certainly interfere with pregnancy success.

        Hope this helps,
