  • Leuteal phase

    Hi Dr Roseff,

I hv got FM done twice, one in natural cycle where I ovulated on cd15 and had a leuteal phase of 16days.
The 2nd FM was done when i was put on clomid, ovulated on cd19 and leuteal phase was 17days.
Can I come to a conclusion that in my case the leuteal phase is of 16-17days standard in all my cycles?
Now my cycles are for 27days to 30days sometimes, so for 27days cycle, can I say that I ovulate on cd11?
pls clarify the above or is it that the leuteal phase can be 12days also in the same person in a different cycle?
    Thanks so much in advance!

We don't base ovulation dating on fertile mucus. One can have FM up to 3 days before ovulation and sometimes (yes, it's possible) after ovulation, as well as when ovulation hasn't happened at all!

Luteal phase length, in my opinion, should be based on the LH surge as the signal point that triggers ovulation. Ovulation occurs, on average, the day after the LH surge, and we count from there forward.

    Hope this helps,

      FM

      Hi Dr Roseff,

In my earlier question I was refering 'FM' to 'Follicular Monitoring' and not fertile Mucus. Sorry, I should have elaborated earlier. Pls reply to my above query on the leuteal phase.
      Thanks so much in advance.

Thanks. No, one can't make conclusions such as yours, because the luteal phase (on or off Clomid) can vary from cycle to cycle in the same woman.
