    Hi Dr. Roseff,
I have the opportunity to take injectable medication this month. My period is due to start June 2oth or 21st, if all holds true to what usually happens. I know I will need blood work and an ultrasound on day 3 prior to starting medication; I know also that I will be monitored until I ovulate at other times.

A friend from out of state just asked me to come visit over the weekend of June 25th and I would be flying home the 28th of June. When I called my dr's office, the nurse told me the office doesn't allow out of state travel from cycle day 1 through ovulation while taking injectable medication. She stated that I could wait a month and try the injectable meds/IUI next month instead if I wanted to do so.

My questions, please: Is it typical protocol for an RE to restrict travel from the start of a cycle through ovulation when the patient is taking injectable medication? Also, I'm turning 41 this month and I worry about waiting until next month. As of yet, our fertility challenge points to low sperm count and low morphology as the reason we have not yet conceived baby #2, but my age plays a factor at some point, I know. Should I be worried about putting the injectable treatment off for another month? Certainly, I don't have to go see my friend, but I do think it would be good as far as some time away and relaxing for me.

Thank you for your thoughts and advice. I so appreciate both. (If my story sounds familiar, I have written to you before about clomid and IUIs and your input is greatly valued; we are on such a better track now, but it seems like it has taken forever to get to this point--about 6 months.)

    In warm sincerity,
    Amy

    Hi Amy,

At your age, every month can make a difference. When our patients travel, we contact RE's in the area they travel to (assuming there are any) in order to arrange blood testing and ultrasound monitoring at that distant center. I'm sorry your doctor doesn't do the same....

    All my best,
