  • Should we try again!

    We had to use a donor because of long time female infertility problems. We had a 25 year old, produced 40 eggs of which we received 20. Out of these 20 eggs, 14 fertilzed. The best embryo on day 3 was a 6 cell with a little fragmentation. The majority of the remaining developed into a 4 or less on day 3. We did not have an 8 cell embryo to transfer out of the 14 fertilized. We were told my husband's sperm was very good.

    1) It is my understanding that if an embryo does not develop into an 8 cells by day 3 it is more than likely an egg issue? Is this so?

    2) Could the eggs have been immature or donor over stimulated?

    3) We have 3 frozen on day 3, each are 4 cells w/some fragmentation. Is it possible that they are of better quality?

    We have quite a few IVF procedures over the years and do not want to take unnecessary medications if the results are more than likely futile.

    Thank you for your help!

    ==> Yes, it's possible, though a 6-cell embryo may be fine.

    2) Could the eggs have been immature or donor over stimulated?
    ==> Absolutely.

    3) We have 3 frozen on day 3, each are 4 cells w/some fragmentation. Is it possible that they are of better quality?
    ==> Anything is possible. At our IVF center, we believe that one can not know the potential of embryos that are cryopreserved on day 3, so we grow our EXTRA embryos that aren't transfered on day 3 to the blastocyst (day 5) stage. Anything that makes it to blast, and looks good, is frozen. That way, our patients benefit from frozen embryo transfer success rates that rival our fresh transfer rates, with extremely high odds of pregnancy and lower odds of miscarriage.

    We average about an 80% success rate in our donor egg program. I hope this helps, and I hope you are successful!!!

                  The worst part of it was that the software only worked intermittently and the data was not accurate. You obviously canot confront anyone about what you have discovered if the information is not right. Zonnepanelen Asse
