  • Endometriosis, PCOS, Hydrosalpinx

Hello, I'm new here. I recently had lap. surg. In March to remove my right tube due to Hydrosalpinx and a small uterine polyp. The RE noticed that I had mild Endometriosis on my ovaries, so I had that lasered off as well. My left tube is still intact although I had an ectopic in 2009 in which case my tube was saved with Methotrexate. My question is what are my chances of conceiving on my own with the remaining tube that I have being that I had an ectopic in that very tube in the past?
I also had a pelvic sonogram done back in Feb. by the same RE and she saw the tell tail "string of pearls" on my ovaries and diagnosed me with PCOS from looking at the screen. I had blood work done and all my hormone levels are within normal range and do not indicate PCOS at all. I do have some thinning hair but no other typical signs of PCOS, no facial hair, or any unwanted hair in any other place for that matter, and my periods are a regular 28 days, give or take a day or too. What else could give someone ovarian cysts? I heard that there is more than one type of PCOS is that true? I'm 36 and have been TTC for 2 years now, and I'm getting very depressed about this. The power to let "nature take it's course" is not in the cards for me with these diagnoses.

    Hi, and welcome!

Regarding your remaining tube, having had an ectopic in that tube puts you at an increased risk for another ectopic in that tube. What did it show when your RE pushed dye through your left tube at the time of the laparoscopy?

PCOS is NOT diagnosed solely based on a sonogram. If your RE diagnosed you as such just based on a sonogram, you should RUN elsewhere....! Any good, board certified RE would/should know that PCOS is not diagnosed just based on a sonogram.

If you want to e-mail me the first/last name, city/state of your RE, I can check his/her credentials for you.

Thank you so much for your reply! As for the remaining tube, prior to the surg. I had an HSG sono in Feb. that was horrifically painful! They were able to open the tube during the test and the dye went straight through into the abdomen. After the surg. in March my RE told me that my left tube is open.

I did get a second opinion and this new RE told me that my blood work levels do not indicate PCOS and that he would like to do a full PCOS panel on me to find out more.

I will e-mail you the name of the RE. Do I click on your name for your e-mail address?

        Hi again,

I don't place much credence in sono HSG's for tubal normalcy. Either we depend on the HSG (with x-ray contrast) or laparoscopy. Did the doctor push dye at your laparoscopy?

          Hi,

Yes she did push dye through to determine that it was open.
