  • IVF? (child ment.)

    Hello,

I'm 36.5 yrs old and have been diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve and one blocked tube. I conceived my son easily at the age of 32 and recently had a miscarriage at 9 weeks. My cycle day 3 blood work is:

    fsh 9
    E2 52
    AMH 0.85
    inhibin B 122
    have not had AFC yet

    My questions include:
    1. What is a normal inhibin B level? Is mine decent?

    2. We are going straight to IVF and are wondering what our chances are with my own eggs or realistically should we go straight to donor eggs?

Thanks so much for your time!

    Hi,

    1. We don't use inhibin-b anymore, as multiple published studies in peer-reviewed fertility journals have shown it doesn't correlate well with fertility and is not very sensitive for ovarian reserve (as we had once hoped it would be). IF you believe in it, however, most labs used to use a limit of 45, under which one was diagnosed with DOR.

    2. I wouldn't typically go straight to donor egg in a 36 year old based just on the numbers you gave me (of course, there may be things about you that dictate otherwise, but I don't know your history). The AFC will be important in helping to know what's best for you...

The odds of success will vary on a LOT of factors, including (and not limited to) the "aggressiveness" of the stimulation protocol, choosing the proper stim regimen to begin with, the expertise of your RE (board certified, I hope), and the success rate of the center you decide to cycle with. I also put my patients on various alternative and complimentary therapies, too, to try to improve egg quality (beyond the scope of this discussion - I would anticipate your RE would do the same for you.....).

    Hope this helps,

Thank you Dr. Roseff! I am with a board certified RE and I have just started OCP. I'm waiting to see what type of stim. protocol they put me on. I will inquire about alternative therapies as well.
      Thanks so much!

The worst part of it was that the software only worked intermittently and the data was not accurate. You obviously canot confront anyone about what you have discovered if the information is not right. web design Victoria
