  • follicles shrink post ovulation?

    Hi Dr. Roseff,

I'm wondering if it's normal for follicles and the lining to shrink by a day or two after ovulation in a natural cycle. If so, can you tell me how many millimeters a follicle might shrink? Could a lining go from 9mm to 7mm just after ovulation?

    Thanks,
    Sophie

Hi - Yes, a follicle can either shrink or disappear after ovulation, and the amount of shrinkage is not predictable. Yes - the uterine lining can become more "compact" after ovulation.

    Hope this helps,

Wow-- thanks! I'm very relieved. I had one shrink a little and one disappear altogether. This is the first time I've ever had a sono after ovulation during a natural cycle, so I had no idea what to expect and there was no one to ask today but a tech at the office. Thanks so much for your fast reply!
