  • Endometrial regeneration after polypectomy & 3 months of Provera

    Hello Dr. Roseff,

I recently had an operative hysteroscopy for removal of 2 polyps (2 cm and 0.5 cm), that went well. This is after 18 months of infertility. I have undergone a full range of infertility testing and my husband has also been tested.

Due to limited OR time, I was required to be on Provera (10 mg/day) for 3 months prior to the surgery to thin my uterine lining. I did not have an actual period the entire time I was on the Provera, but did have spotting (usually light) almost every day for 2 1/2 months (the doctor said this wasn't abnormal).

I will be following up with my doctor (a reproductive endocrinologist) in a month, but he advised no sex for 2 weeks to ensure there is no infection after the operative hysteroscopy (I'm still having some light bleeding now 4 days later).

After 2 weeks should we use condoms due to a possibly thin uterine lining? How long will it take the uterine lining to regenerate after 3 months of Provera? I had an ultrasound 6 weeks ago (after 6 weeks of Provera) and my lining was 5.5 mm then. I'm just wondering if it is safe to try to conceive after 2 weeks or if I should wait for a full period first?

Thank you for any advice you can provide.

    Hi,

The uterine lining generally regenerates itself within ONE menstrual cycle. Pretty cool, huh?!
