  • Clomid Unsuccessful

Hi, I am a 27 year old healthy female, and I have always had problems with my menstrual cycles. I first got my period at age 12, and ever since then they have not been regular at all. Some years, without birth control, I only had about 3 periods per year. So, when it came time to try to conceive, I knew I would more than likely have a difficult time. I was on birth control for 3 years and 9 months - stopped it in November of 2010 (exactly 1 year ago). Since then I have had to take provera every 6 weeks just to start my period. I had 1 period spontaneously on my own, and that's it. In April my doctor did a day 21 progesterone test, among testing many other levels, with the results of everything normal except my progesterone which was 0.4. They said that was consistent with anovulation, and recommended clomid therapy. I have done 3 cycles of clomid (50mg, 100mg, and 150mg) with no sucess - all 3 day 21 prog tests came back as 0.4 so my levels did not go up AT ALL. So, I was sent to a fertility specialist, who looked at my ovaries via ultrasound and saw several immature follicles, saying my ovaries were both polycystic. For this next cycle, he is putting me on 200mg clomid with 2mg of dexamethasone. Is there any chance of the clomid working with the dexamethasone, even when my body did not respond at all to the other doses? And if not, do fertility doctors generally go to fertility shots or other things? I'm getting so discouraged, I want a baby so bad...

    Hi,

I pray someone took a moment to take two steps back and get you tested to come up with a diagnosis. You CAN'T diagnose PCOS just based on your history and ultrasound - At the very least, blood tests need to be done. Also, what did your insulin level show? Glucose tolerance test? What's your BMI? Vitamin-D level? In other words, what's your true diagnosis?

Also, some women on one pill of Clomid for five days develop a mature follicle but don't release it (unless they get an hCG injection). When you were on the lower doses of Clomid, what did your ultrasound (and blood hormone levels) show while you were taking it (around cycle day 13, 16, 19, etc.)? What type of monitoring did you receive on the Clomid?

Finally, please tell me your partner's sperm count, progressive motility, and strict morphology.

    Thanks,
