I am 35 yrs old , normal fsh, dh is normal . We were unexplained until our first IVF . I did a long lupron protocol , made 11 eggs , only 3 fertilised and were doing poorly by day 2 and had a day 2 transfer with a BFN. I had a bad reaction to lupron with joint pains , unable to walk , was forgetting things , visual problems etc . Hence we decided to do antagonist protocol for IVF # 2 , moved onto CCRM for IVF # 2 , had 16 eggs , 12 fertlised , but again did poorly and was left with 3 for transfer , with varying degrees of fragmentation and cells . All in all the poor quality issue persisted and CCRM has recommended donor eggs , which based on my ethnicity etc is next to impossible . I am about to proceed with IVF # 3 with my own eggs with again antagonist protocol . Based on the limited information provided do you think that is a good idea , or should I brave it and go for the lupron again ? I seem to get the information that lupron is associated with the best results . What do you advise ?

We think most unexplained infertility is really a temporary egg quality issue. Many women become overly sensitive to male hormones, which has negative influence on the developing eggs. For this reason we do not like the standard antagonit protocol.Nor do we use the Lupron flare. Given your symptoms from Lupron, (which might be alleviated by the birth control pill), I would recommend starting antagonist on CD1. Also important is to use only FSH in the beginning of the cycle, adding a small amount of LH towards the end, in an individualized approach. Estrogen priming will also be beneficial in your case.
Before you start your next cycle, I suggest you contact me directly so we can review the details of your case together more thoroughly.
