Hello Dr. Fisch and Dr. Sher:
I am 39 years old and have been trying to concieve for 3+ years.
My journey began in 2006 when an ovarian cyst was identified as a possible obstacle to getting pregnant and I agreed to have it removed. During the surgery, my fallopian tube was cut and burned like a "perfect tubal ligation". The specialist recommended we try to get pregnant on our own and come see him after 6-8 months. We did and he then recommended IVF so we were not relying on my good tube to get pregnant.
I have tried IVf twice but have never made it past the "stimulation" phase.
The first time we tried was in October of 2008. I was on 225 units of Gonal F and 75 units of Luveris. I produced 4 follicles and was told I had just as much of a chance of concieving doing IUI, so we converted from IVF to IUI.
My second attempt was last month. My protocal was 325 units of Gonal F and 75 units of Luveris. I produced 3 follicles and was told that I did not have enough to proceed and that I should cancel my cycle. The specialist said I am a "poor responder" to fertility drugs and recommended we stop trying IVF and look at adopting.
I am very frustrated because all along I have been told everything is "normal". All of my tests and my husbands' tests have come back within the normal range. We are both healthy, hard-working, loving people who would be wonderful parents if given the chance. I feel we should get a second opinion and we are willing to travel. Please advise what you would recommend. I feel like time is NOT on our side since we will both be turning 40 this summer.
Any information we can obtain is appreciated.
Thanks, Family4uandme
