Thanks for taking the time to read this.
I've just turned 35, my husband is 39, and we're awaiting the results of IVF #5. ICSI is our only option as my husband has extremely poor sperm. I have mild PCOS but ovulate regularly (as confirmed by blood testing). Below is a brief synopsis of our history:
1. IVF/ICSI - 2 eggs retrieved, 1 mature, 1 fertilized with 3 day transfer, miscarriage at 9w2d (no reason found).
2. IVF/ICSI - 7 eggs retrieved, 7 mature, 7 fertilized, 2 transfered at 5 days, 3 frozen, miscarriage at 5w2d (no testing done).
3. FET - 2 survived thaw, 3 day transfer, miscarriage at 7w6d (trisomy 16).
4. IVF/ICSI - 11 eggs retrieved, 9 mature, 4 fertilized, 1 passed polar body analysis, 3 day transfer, pregnancy test negative.
5. IVF/ICSI - 7 eggs retrieved, 4 mature, 2 fertilized, 2 transferred at 3 days, awaiting results.
My regimen has been Synarela nasal spray for down regulation and 125-150 UI Puregon (the European version of Follistim, I believe) for 10 days or so.
I've asked my doctor if our problem could be poor quality eggs, and he tells me that with my response, that isn't the problem. He thinks we have simply had bad luck and need the right embryo.
If this cycle doesn't work out, we're debating whether or not to pursue a 6th. I realize that you do not have access to our detailed histories, but would you counsel a couple like us to continue? Could it really just be bad luck?
Thanks so much for your response,
Beth
