I'll go first- 10K pumpkin run

The last race I did was last year's pumpkin run. I did the 5K last year, and then I pretty much fell off the running boat that I was feebly attempting to climb back onto. But now I'm back, double the distance in (hopefully) much less than double the time. And I'm REALLY looking forward to the chocolate cheesecake on the finishline snack table (now you know the REAL reason I signed up )

Last year I ran alone, this year dh is running with me. If he can keep up

My sister signed me up for a 5K this weekend! (M

I am not really ready, though I think I will do okay. I am up to 2.5 miles comfortably, so I know I can get the extra half mile in there on race day. We are going to NY for the Columbus holiday for 5 days, and my sister was already doing the race, so she signed me up. I am signed for another race at the end of October (5K), and then I am going to work on training for my first triathlon in the spring. Yikes!

      Good luck to other racers!

        Signed up for the..

Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC on October 26......20 days and counting..dun, dun , DUM!!!

I signed up for this race on April 30th - the plan was to meet one of my best friend from Atlanta and run it together. Since then he has bailed on me but I'm doing it anyway. Ran my last long run of 20 miles yesterday and I'm psyched to go!!

I'm sure you'll do great. I mean, you can always walk to the finish if you need to, right? But you won't

            You're gonna love it!

That race is special to me. It captured my imagination and inspired me to become a runner. It was several years before I had the confidence to act on it, but seeing women running (alone) through the park lit a tiny little spark in my heart.

              Have a great run!

The Austin Marathon. I live in Austin so it's easy to get to. It's very hilly though! I ran the 1/2 last year. I'm just hoping I can get there uninjured!

My neighbor is doing the Chicago marathon... next weekend or soon I think! She started training in April, and ran her last long run last week. Anyway, I am in awe of you long distance runners. I can barely squeak out a 5K! I am focusing on the triathlon after October, so we'll see how that goes.

Let us know how your marathon goes.

Like I said above, I am in awe of you long distance runners. I can barely get a 5K in. One step at a time I suppose.

Anyway, enjoy the races! I'd love to hear more about 1/2 and/or marathon training... I'd like to try a 10K maybe (we'll see how i feel after my 5K's this weekend and end of the month first!), though I am going to start triathlon training in January (except the biking, which will be more like March here in IL).

Even when I was marathon training, and starting out on a 10 or 15 mile run, the first mile or two, the whole time my brain would be saying things like 'What are you doing?' 'You can't run 15 miles, you can't even run ONE' 'You should probably turn back now.' 'This is never going to work, who are you kidding?' 'You are not a runner.'

I promise. The first couple miles are the hardest even when you regularly run 5 or more miles.

I used, and highly recommend, The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer

                            http://www.amazon.com/Non-Runners-Ma.../dp/1570281823

By the way, when you're brain is telling you those things, you just tell it the truth that you are creating- I AM a runner. Yes I CAN, because I AM a runner. I love running. I AM a runner. Running is fun.

                              half-marathon on Nov 9th

I want to do a 10k on Columubs Day but probably won't be able to swing it with other committments that day.

I"m contemplating a marathon in February. If not the full, at least the half. Then also contemplating a marathon in May. Not sure when I'll ever find the time to train when it gets up there in miles!

I enjoy races and there are zillions of opportunities around here, but I rarely do 5ks or 10ks because I feel like it's so time consuming to drive wherever it is, get your number, stand around and wait, then finally run for only a short distance. I'd prefer to run on my own then spend the rest of that time doing other workout stuff at the gym.
