  • Joining in with an introduction...

OK, I'll admit that I've been lurking for a long time. I decided now that my youngest is in grade one, I have no more excuses for still carrying around those last 15 lbs of baby weight. So, this fall, after the boys started school, I've started to be a bit more serious about my fitness.

I joined the Masters Swim Club (actually, started this last year, but that is all I did). We meet twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, for one hour, and average 1700-2000 meters a session. Then on alternate days, I've been doing the Couch to 5K program (I'm on week 5), and then throwing some Pilates in there too. So far so good...

A little bit more about me...I found inciid in 1998. I have two boys, 8 and 6. We live on a ranch in Southern Alberta, just north of Glacier National Park, MT. We have a pretty active and busy family, but this is just about me (and getting in shape for ski season). I'm not sure where I want to take this, maybe train for a mini tri-athalon, but for now, it just feels pretty good to be using my body like I haven't in a while, and feel muscles I haven't felt in years. I also work as an RN in a small rural hospital 3/4 time, so I fit stuff in when I can.

Welcome to the board! There are a few swimmers around here and a few triathletes (and aspiring triathletes) as well. You're in good company

      Welcome Maren!

Lucky you - wish I had a Masters Swim program close by. I LOVE to swim but rarely have the chance to do it. Sounds like you have a great plan. Look forward to chatting with you more.

You live in a BEAUTIFUL part of the world - WOW lucky you.

        welcome!

The board is typically slow, just so you know.

          Just checking up on you.

How is the couch to 5k going? I did that once and really liked it!

            I'm liking the C to 5K...

but I'm repeating week 6. I was away from home for 6 days starting last thursday and didn't manage to fit any running in. The other thing I'm wondering about is how motivated I will be to go out and run when the cold weather really hits. I guess I could go to the gym in town, but that seems like a lot more effort than just heading out from my front door.

Thanks for checking in with me.

Its kind of fun gathering all the cold weather running gear you'll want. You can think of it as kind of a project. You'll want the perfect jacket, long sleeve tech shirt, some kind of headband/ear cover, gloves, tights or long running pants. You'll find the cold spots that get through your layers and come up with ways of dressing to eliminate cold spots. Its kind of fun, if you have the right perspective. Of course, I don't know how cold it gets where you run.

Well, I am always looking for an excuse for more gear...

and we do have a pretty good outlet store in town. It can get very cold here, but it's more the wind that can make things unmanageable. Maybe I'll just have to resign myself to running at the gym on those days.

                Thanks,
                Maren
