  • Do you exercise when you are sick?

I've been sick for awhile and haven't wanted to exercise. But maybe I should suck it up and do it so I don't lose my steam. What do others do.

    thanks

I depends on the illness... (M

If I feel okay, maybe just a cold, then I will exercise. If I have a fever or feel really run down, or my illness is over a week going, then I won't, and I might be at the doctor by then anyway. You have to rest a bit when sick, but sometimes with minor illnesses I feel better and stronger when I stick to my exercise routine.

    Hugs, and get well vibes!

If it's just a cold or something minor I exercise on through. Stomach or virus related NO WAY. I must confess that I ran a 5K once with severe bronchitis. I thought my doctor was going to beat me over that one. I ended up on steriods + a 14 day course of antibiotics for that little jaunt.

Best advice - use your own judgement, listen to you body and if you feel really tired/faint/sick/...just slow it down or stop altogether.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

If its just a cold, I might

Although at this point I'm having a hard time saying anything other than 'no'. I've been sick for about a week with an upper respiratory infection, and I'm not ready to run at this point. My respiratory system doesn't need any more stress.

          usually not (m)

Because when I get sick, it is most likely a sinus infection and that involves being congested and coughing, so as soon as I start getting overheated, the coughing starts.

In fact, I just went back to the gym on Monday after being sick for the last 2 1/2 weeks- 2 rounds of antibiotics to feel better.

          Hope you feel better soon!

If I have an upper respiratory infection, I may go to my step aerobics class (my main form of exercise) if I feel that I'm getting better. Otherwise, I'd probably choose to go for a walk, which is not as taxing. I think your body needs to take it easier when fighting a virus. And if it's fighting an infection, such as bronchitis, it definitely needs rest.

I will run through about anything except for a chest

cold or brochitis. Usually, it makes me feel better.

Well, I've been out for 4 weeks with asthma that turned into pnuemonia and then a pulled muscle. I haven't exercised at all.

I still feel lousy but I got on the treadmill today and it felt GREAT. I feel so much better then I did this morning when I got up.
