I ran my company sponsored 10K with 1500 friends It was a beautiful day - in the 50's with no humidity. I posted a 9 minute PR which was way beyond my expectations! I only started running a couple years ago and have never been "athletic". At my age (close to 50) I never thought I'd get much faster but the marathon training is really helping.

Best to everyone racing this month and next!

      Marathon THIS Sunday....

Got that butterfly'ee feeling in my tummy!! I'm very excited to run...the only thing I'm really nervous about are all the race logistics. We are not that familiar with the DC area and the Metro so that part will be a big adventure.

      5 days and counting down!!

Good luck! Hope you get great weather. Is this your first? A co-worker ran the Marine Corps last year as his first marathon and enjoyed it.

          It's my 3rd Marathon...

I ran NY two times but that was in 1995 and 1996. First time running this race...although I really don't think of the marathon as a "race"...more of a long distance challenge!

Weather is looking good...high's in the upper 60's but it's an 8AM race start so hopefully it won't be too bad.

          3 days and counting down......

I did my 10K today! I haven't run in over 2 weeks from being sick and then injured. My guess is that I pulled a muscle in my ribcage, and it hurts quite a bit, especially if I cough, sneeze or breath deeply. Dh hurt his back last weekend and has been unable to run since then, so we were both feeling pretty old and decrepit.

Still... we showed up and agreed to stick together, not knowing if either of us would end up writhing in pain or if we'd be hurting no worse than if we weren't running.

So, we managed. We did well all things considered. And we enjoyed the free beer and chick-fil-a sandwiches at the finish line

              Marathon DONE!!!!!

I did it!!!!! What an AWESOME and amazing experience it was....nothing like running through the streets of Washington DC with the Marine Corps as your support system. Ran it in 4 hours 4 minutes...really wanted to break the 4 hour mark but I am very happy to have completed my journey!!! Now it's a week of rest for me and then time to pick my next race.

Great job! Isn't it nice to know you can eat what you want after the race without feeling guilty!

Wow! Congratulations! Your time was awesome. I've heard it's a great marathon and very inspiring running by all the monuments.

Any tips for getting through the last miles? I've heard it can be pretty brutal.

Thank you - it was a fantastic experience!

Perfect day for running, beautiful city to run through, lots of handsome, motivating Marines at all the refueling stations. I could not ask for more.

The last 4 miles were VERY tough but I was lucky enough to have lined up next to a woman very similiar to myself in so many ways. We ran 24 miles together and the last 2 I did solo. It's all in your head at that point....I did not stop to walk until the 24 mile mark water station. I walked through that and the 25 mile one as well. I wanted to finish strong and just kept thinking of that over and over.

I am going to do another one again next Fall not sure which one though. It is a very inspiring and humbling experience all at the same time - don't know if that makes sense or not.

                      Keep on running!

Did my half marathon today! Felt better than I thought I would during the run, so that is good. But my legs are really stiff now. I'm about to take some Advil and go to bed. I have no idea how I ever finished a marathon and I think my time at the half was faster than I just ran today -- mind boggling to me that I ever had that kind of energy and stamina!

If you are near New Hampshire, the Sea Coast Half is a really pretty course and really well organized race. But they should tell us when we register and check off shirt size that it is men's sizes. Yet another tshirt that is way too big -- and it's the nice, technical fabric too. My dh has a ton of race shirts and he might run 3 miles in a whole year!

We also had a really fun weekend, did some fun stuff, ate too much, and did some shopping. Came home and ate the last of the Halloween candy. I have to get back on my eating plan!

Was just going to ask you for an update...

and I saw your post! Congrats! You finished - whaaa hooo!

My legs were sore to walk on from the marathon until about the Wednesday after....it's been 2+ weeks and i can still feel the soreness in them when I'm running anything over 3 miles. I LOVE ADVIL!!! Something that I also learned about when training was to soak in an ice bath after exceptionally long runs - sounds horrible but let me tell you it does wonders for aiding your recovery.

I'm glad you had a nice weekend - it sounds like a gorgeous course. Maye one day.......

Congrats again on a race well run!

Congratulations! Sounds like it was a fun weekend.

I ran a very hilly 10-miler this weekend. Austin has a series of races leading up to the marathon which get progressively longer. In Dec. there's a 1/2M then a 20-miler in January!
