  • I decided to start cold turkey

Getting off my comfy sofa to exercise has been kind of tricky for awhile. So, I'll tell myself something like... lets just ease into it, no pressure, and see if we can get to the gym 3 days a week. The problem with that is that those 3 days can easily be some other day than today, and then when I do stick to my guns and go, I feel kind of resentful that its one of the days and not one of my free days.

So, I came up with a solution. I'll just go every day, monday - friday. I don't have to wonder if it should be today or not. The answer is already yes. I don't have to be resentful that its not a lazy day. I had plenty of those in December. And November.

Tomorrow (friday) I will have completed two weeks of going to the gym every day. I da WOman.

    Monday: run
    Tuesday: run
    Wednesday: Barbell class
    Thursday: run
Friday: pilates (my reward for a week well spent)

I'm off to do pilates, the most wonderful exercise of all.

(After all, its mostly just laying on the floor and wiggling your toes... how can that be hard?)

      good job!

I am torn between working out - which I love to do and generally takes precedence over everything else in life - and getting used to a new gym/instructors/routine/times and all the house work I want/need to get done. The new gym and spin instructors are ok. I have to motivate myself to do more weights on my own since I can do more/better in less time than the boot camp or muscle classes.

It's really slow going with the house projects.

I always push myself harder in the strength classes than I would on my own. But I only do barbell and another class called 'strictly strength'. I dislike the cardio/strength combo classes... I'd rather just run.

            3 weeks and going strong

I'm rather proud of myself. Through all kinds of weather and holidays and random screw-with-your-schedule days, I've been there.

Now there's only one week left on my January calendar to fill up with work out reports. There's no way that I'm going to go this far and not have a perfect calendar by week's end. (Unless I get the flu or something...)

Dh made a pace spreadsheet for me

It runs a graph at the bottom of the data. My pace today was a full 2 minutes faster per mile than my Jan 3rd pace. And that was judged on a full 5.1 miles including the warm up and cool down. I rock. (that's me panting for breath and dripping with sweat)

Don't misunderstand, its still painfully slow. But it is getting closer to my old standard for a lazy workout pace. You know... there's the 'working really hard trying to get a PR' pace. Then there's the 'working hard' pace. Then there's the 'not working very hard but still doing it' pace.

ETA: per mile. Just to be clear.

that you are doing it is what matters most..

I rationalized the donutS (notice the plural) because I worked out really hard for over an hour today with my trainer... ugh...

Yes, and that's what keeps me going. I know it doesn't matter if I'm slow or weak (in my barbell class). It never gets any easier, you just run faster or lift more. The work is the work.

Yesterday's workout was HARD, but I did it

I mean hard like it felt like my HR was probably 85 and I checked it and found it was only 65. Hard like I felt like I was running at 5.5mph and I checked and it was only 4.8 mph. Hard like I felt like my legs were made of clay and they were running through and ocean of peanut butter.

Hard like my mom came up and since she's on a diet she brought two bags of candy and took us out to lunch at my favorite pizza joint, and I didn't end up getting to the gym til 7pm... but I did it anyway. Because, after all, there are only 2 workout days left in January and then my workout log will be beautifully and perfectly filled.
