  • Fruits and veggies

    I'm wondering how many of us eat the 5 recommended servings of fruits and veggies daily. I was reading an article about this yesterday, but can't find it this morning. The article said that ideally we'd actually eat 8 servings of fruits and veggies daily, but most people barely eat 4!

    Most days I do pretty well with this.

    Yesterday I had:

    red grapes
    OJ
    apple
    muffin with banana and dried fruit
    red peppers
    lettuce
    onions
    pickle

    (6-7)

    Today I plan to have:

    red grapes
    oj
    pumpkin muffin
    banana
    hummus
    carrot
    peas
    spinach
    onions
    pomegranate yogurt

    (8-9)

    on good days I definitely do. I'm usually at 3 servings of veggies and 2 servings of fruit. I consider a cup of veggies a serving and a whole piece of fruit or about a cup a serving of fruit.

    on not good days, I consider ketchup a fruit.

    if I go a while not incorporating enough fruit and veggies I can definitely tell because I'll feel bloated and, well, ya just notice it in the bathroom, eh hem.

      LOL! We ate out for every meal when we went on vacation last year. Good luck finding a decent veggie. I was "sick" for over a week after we got back.

        most days I am at 5-7 fruits and veggies..

        sometimes it's too much fruit actually. I would never lose weight under the new plan. I could easily eat 5+ fruit servings if I ate dried fruit and bananas. I strive for a minimum of 3 veggie servings. I count that as 1/2 cup cooked or 1 C raw. I'm not always successful with the veggie goal.

          I usually do, closer to 7-8 or actually, unless I am just not eating much that day. I take care of about 3 fruit servings at breakfast alone, and then it is usually just vegs after that.

          Too bad chocolate chip cookies aren't a major food group that is good for you....
