  • omgosh.. I can't stop eating sugar!!!

I eat veggies, I eat fruit, I eat whole grains, I eat lean protein... AND I CAN"T STOP EATING SUGAR :-(

Today is my day to give it up! I knwo I would be thin if I would just stop eating sweets...

    :-(

I hate this battle. I just got a 95 on a Hindu philosophy test but I can't put down the sugar.. makes no sense to me.

What is it specifically? I assume you're not scooping the spoon in the sugar jar, so what's the kryptonite?

I think it is linked to low serotonin, at least in my case I KNOW it is. I can totally control the sugar cravings in spring/summer but not in late fall/winter.

It is a fight; working out just does not help that much. My light box may be helping a bit but the brain is just set on low serotonin and higher melatonin, the hibernation hormone. Heck, even during exercise I dream of sugary treats. And I also crave wine, which after all is just the flip side of sugar. And if I drink wine I inevitably want even more sugar. At least since I went menopausal I don't have the added whammy of PMS.

Today I began taking Rhodolia Rosea extract, on the advice of a PNOer. It is supposed to have a positive impact on serotonin production and uptake. I am lucky because in Austria we can get a very pure extract in pill form that is a standardized amount of the extract. The only downside is it costs about $20 for a two week supply. SAM-e also is supposed to be good for serotonin production. Also expensive. One thing at a time.

Meanwhile, Magnesium apparently is also an important mineral for serotonin synthesis. I am taking extra magnesium as well.

Ah, may I repeat how much I hate this time of year?
