  • ok, maybe a little too skinny, but...

I am 5'2" and have a medium frame. I believe I am on the muscular side for a woman. I am probably 132 pounds right now and I eat a lot - easily 2000 calories a day. And admittedly I eat a lot of junk food.

Is it possible to get as thin as Kelly Ripa? I actually really admire her in a way. She is a tad annoying, but I like her look. I like how sinuey (sp?) she is. I've read on line that she is 5'2" and 98 pounds. I honestly wonder if she is shorter if that is her actual weight.

I know 98 pounds is unrealistic for me - that might be my essential body mass right there.

How on earth do you think she maintains that weight??

If I really tried to commit to not keeping any more junk food in the house, do you think I could lose about 15 pounds and keep it off long term?? The lowest I've weighed since having kids was 122. At age 26 I was 108 pounds, but probably had less muscle than right now.

Or should I give up this nonsense and throw away all the pants I bought when I was 122 for, oh a month, to clean out the closet?

    Now that is rational.

People have different body shapes - no matter what you do you're not going to look like Kelly Ripa. Admire her all you want. I admire Halle Berry but I'm not trying to sculpt myself to look like her. Be you. Enjoy you.

      Excellent advice!!

I think Kelly Ripa must either have an eating disorder (go back and look at pictures of her when she first was on All My Children) or she must work out every free moment she has and not eat more than birdseed... she's a bit too skinny for my liking.

Kelly Ripa has a battalion of trainers, chefs, coaches, nannies etc. That is how she does it. I think she looks too masculine and her 6 pack/protruding navel sort of skeeves me out. Ask your DH if he finds her attractive.

I agree that you should not try to look like someone else because your body shape is your body shape. It also changes over time. You may have more or less fat on it, but my experience is that I lose weight and just look like smaller version of me. The extra fat on the "saddlebags" and the jelly belly are less noticeable but still there, even if the rest of me is skeletal.

As for aspiring to get to a weight that was healthy for you at a younger age: why not? If you at 26 looked and felt great, coming close to that weight (with an allowance for more muscle mass) could be a very realistic goal. I know it is mine. I see no reason why I have to weigh more than I did in college. And I definitely am in better shape now than then. So if 108 was a great weight for you, shoot for a range of, say, 110-115.
