  • Coats leads Ellsworth by one point

A new Research 2000/Daily Kos poll shows the presumed frontrunners in each party -- Democrat Brad Ellsworth and Republican Dan Coats -- nearly tied in a general election. Coats leads Ellsworth by one point, 37 percent to 36 percent. Former Rep. John Hostettler, who is running against Coats for the Republican nomination, actually leads Ellsworth by a wider margin in the survey, 42 percent to 34 percent. Also tested: Democrat Jim Schellinger, an architect who ran for governor in 2008 and trails Coats by five points and Hostettler by 11.
