The GOP county chairmen in Rep. Scott Murphy's upstate New York district endorsed Army veteran Chris Gibson Wednesday as the Republican nominee to oppose the freshman Democrat this fall. Gibson's path to the nomination was cleared after Patrick Ziegler, another Republican candidate, withdrew from the race. Gibson called his challenge to Murphy a "chance to renew our republic and enact policies to make us feel safe," indicating he'll go after Murphy's votes on health care and energy legislation in the general election.
