Hoyer, Van Hollen pressured challenger

Kevin Weiland, who declared plans to run in a Democratic primary against Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin before backing down, told the Rapid City Journal that some high-profile House Democrats urged him to reconsider his candidacy. The physician says Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen called him to lobby against a run, as did Herseth Sandlin herself.
