Democratic state Rep. Joel Sheltrown became the first candidate to jump into the race in Michigan's 1st District after Rep. Bart Stupak's retirement announcement Friday. Sheltrown said he consulted with House Speaker Andy Dillon about the race, according to the Detroit News, concluding: "Here's my opportunity to go up against the status quo, and I will challenge and ask questions and demand different results than what we have today."
