  • Clarification on donations...

In the poll when I asked about method of donation (PayPal, personal check or to Alison directly) I meant how we will collect the money. I was thinking that once all the contributions are in (and we will do an accounting of it all so that people can see their contribution was received) we can use a portion for the remembrance selected (right now a tree is in the lead) and then the remainder can be given to Alison in a bank check.

And about the tree, I agree with the concerns of planting in their yard in the event they move. We can talk to Alison about it. Maybe there is a park or someplace special that would be appropriate. And a plaque saying it is in remembrance of Al is perfect.

So, back to the donations. We can do both PayPal contributions and personal checks. But we still need someone willing to be the collector. Any volunteers???? Please...

I have very limited experience with PayPal, but can someone tell me if I were to PayPal money, can the recipient see anything about me other than my e-mail address and the amount?

Not sure. Paypal may provide a name and shipping address but you could almost certainly override this.

There is always the option of mailing a money order, which will not display any personal information except what you write on it. For example, you could write/type "Donation for Alison; from WasTarin" and mail it to the appropriate person. Which brings me to the return address matter. I think you could avoid this by either using "WasTarin" and Alison's address as the return address or a local postal store as the return address.

I was thinking about the same kinds of things. You would think I'm a rock star or something the way I love anonymity.

I just sent a test payment from my business PayPal acct to my personal PP acct to test this out. You can select the Service/Other option which means that you do not have to provide an address for your payment (and one will not be given to the recipient, obviously). It shows your name and email address and the PayPal transaction ID and invoice numbers but no numbers related to your financials.

I don't think there's a way around having it reveal your name as PayPal uses a name to verify the source of funding and automatically attaches it to the transaction. (It uses the name on the credit card or bank account that the funds are drawn on.) For example, I just sold a tie dyed wool diaper cover on Etsy (yay, me!!) and the PayPal receipt shows the dh's name though the dw made the purchase.

Are you trying to convince us

that you're NOT a rock star! Ha, good luck. We've got your number.

            Hey WasTarin...

I will volunteer to collect the money. I want to make sure though that everyone knows that every penny is going to Alison...so this is what I propose:

--Everyone send a set amount that we decide on (I was thinking $20.00 per person)
--Send a check or money order (money order if you want to remain anonymous for all you movie and rock stars!)
--I prefer to email my name and address out to all who will be donating the money rather than posting it here on the web.
--Then once I receive everyone's money...I will start a thread showing who I received money from. This way we can be sure everyone who donated knows their money was received etc. Then it is simple arithmetic. The number of people posted times the set amount we determine will total what our total pool of money is (ex: 30 people X $20.00 = $600.00).
--Then whoever is going to purchase our remembrance gift (ex: tree) will need to scan the receipt and either post it or email it. Then I will send the money to that person.
--With the remainder of the money...I will secure a money order in Alison's name. I will also scan this and post it to verify that every penny is going to Alison.

Does this sound thorough enough? I just want everyone to feel comfortable that every penny donated is going to Alison. I think if we scan all receipts and the final money order...then we can verify that our money is going where it is intended.

Let me know what you think. Please offer your ideas if there is a better way.

Paypal does charge a small fee for each transaction so I think it would be better to go through snail mail with checks or money orders (for the rock stars).

            Thanks,

            Cindy

              This sounds perfect, Cindy...

So everyone who wants to contribute should e-mail you at:

              pnoinciid@yahoo.com

and you will give us your home address to send checks. Is that right? E-mailing now.

Does it have to be a set amount? $20 can be a stretch for people, especially if they're doing other things as well...

Vote how much we should each donate to the money pool for Alison?

I think it needs to be a set amount for everyone to avoid complicating things.

                  $10; $15; $20; $25 each; etc...

                  Thanks,

                  Cindy

Yes...email pnoinciid@yahoo.com and I will tell you where to send your contribution. First though, we need to decide how much we are giving per person.

So please vote on the thread below how much we should give per person.

                      Thanks,

                      Cindy

This is so good of you to do, Cindy, that

I want to do as you request (a set amount from each person), but I wonder how complicated it would get if people just sent along what they could? I don't want it to be a PITA for you...and you saying as much will do it for me and I will fall in line. Your call Cindy.

                          Chiming in late....but

I think people should be allowed to give what they want.....can?
There should not be a specific dollar amount.
why cant you just set a deadline for sending you what they can?
I would suggest 10 days, as some people need to plan for such things.
It doesnt matter if it is $1 or $100......the final picture is to take what is sent and purchase the tree and whatever else right?
Just my opinion.....but I dont think anyone should be forced to give a certain amount.
Hugs, and thank you for doing this Cindy!~

I agree that if possible, people should send what they want to send and not a $ amount. Some people have already contributed in other ways. Several people are knitting afghan squares and have purchased yarn for that and others are sending care packages.

I think we should suggest $20 per person, but any amount someone cares to send would be great, be that less or more. No one, but you Cindy, will have to know how much each individual has sent.

Once we agree on the item we wish to give to Alison it can be purchased and any remaining $$ can be sent to Alison to use as she determines.

This seems the most fair way of collecting funds, at least to me.
