  • Marion Jones....relay teammates are

stripped of their olympic metals too because she admitted to doping. Wow! I'd feel really bad if I were Marion Jones. So, was it fair or unfair that they were all stripped of the olympic metals? Would it have been so wrong to have some kind of compromise? Like 2 sets of metals handed out for those team races for that year?

It feels almost tragic... :-( And, yet I have no idea what really *would* be fair...

I think they should give them back, as sad as it is for the team. What do you tell people after this? You don't tell your grandchildren that your team won a gold medal because your *team* did not because one member ruined it for everyone. It's now a tainted gold medal anyway...fair or unfair.

Did they actually strip the medals?

I initially heard that they'd asked for them back but were not going to TAKE them back. Did they strip them just this week?

(I said 'fair' because MJ's cheating may have contributed to the over all win).

Is it unfair that three innocent people are stripped of their metals because of a teammate's illegal action? Yeah ... and no. What else could be done? It's not a legitimate win. Of course everyone feels badly for the three innocents but the fact is, they probably would not have won if Jones hadn't taken steroids or if another woman had run.

They did compromise when a Russion figure skating judge was caught cheating a few years ago and they allowed the Russian pair to share the gold with the Canadian pair. But in that case the athletes had done nothing wrong. Here one of the athletes did cheat so I don't think a compromise would work.
