I wanted to point out that this is a specific reference to southerners. Not that I think its wrong, its just a reference I would have missed prior to living in the south. My friend gave me some lessons on how to be southern, and one was that you could say whatever insult or piece of gossip you wanted about someone as long as you couch it with 'bless her heart'. So, for example, 'She has the homeliest daughter, bless her heart.' Or, 'Bless her heart, she doesn't even know who the daddy is.'
