  • Will you give McCain a chance?

Those of us who are McCain supporters have been encouraged to give Obama a chance if he is elected - give him the benefit of the doubt and hold judgement as we watch for his bipartisan efforts and unifying presence in Washington.

So I ask - if McCain wins, will Obama supporters give a McCain administration the benefit of the doubt?

Absolutely. In fact, I think McCain may pendulum-swing back to his more independent roots, once the election is over. That can only bode well for the country.

Of course. If he's our president I will hope he does great things for this country. I would wish that of any president!

(ETA: Of course I'll be doing it from Canada, but I'll be doing it nonetheless! LOL)

Absolutely. I'm hoping that, should he win, he will govern more like the McCain of 2000 and not the one that ran this time. But he absolutely will have my support following his election. I think every President deserves our support and respect unless and until they demonstrate that they are not deserving of it.

I think you are absolutely correct here. I forget where I read it, but someone wrote last week that McCain is "congenitally bipartisan" - he can't help it, it's in his genes.

If McCain does win, of course I would give him a chance. I would dearly hope that he would be able to turn things around, given that IMO our country has been headed in far too many wrong directions for far too many years. In fact, I would even go so far as to say that I don't really care *who* turns things around, just so long as they get turned around. But I voted for Obama b/c I believe he has a greater likelihood of doing so (and I also seriously question McCain's choice of Palin as VP).

              Yes.

In fact, a friend and I talked recently that despite the craziness of the election process, we really are lucky to have two *decent* candidates for president -- when you compare our country to unstable democracies around the world (or no democracy at all)...we should be thankful. Of course the candidates are very different and yes, they will conduct the business of this country differently; but the reality is that if we really made a big list of everything....there are more similarities than differences. [Which, of course, is the benefit of a stable democracy [or republic] but it gets hard to remember during the heat of the election process.]

                I've never understood the question

Regardless of who gets elected, what does it mean that I'm supposed to support them and give them a chance? Is that question all about my mental attitude and my conversations at the water fountain? Or is there some concrete way that I'm supposed to give him a 'yeah rah!'

Both questions have seemed odd to me. And I hope that whoever wins does a good job and lifts our country up rather than dragging it down.

I'll hope for the best. The best, in the case of McCain winning, would be that he live long and prosper, that Palin have a reason to leave her post and be replaced with someone I could respect, and that McCain behave like he has for the vast majority of his career, not like he has in the past 6 months.

                    Of course!

If McCain gets elected, I will absolutely be repectful of the position he holds, as I would with anyone being our president. There is no question about that for me. We have a country where we get to vote and decide and I think that is a wonderful thing. So, if McCain wins, then yes, by all means, I will be behind him, since that is who the citizens of the country I live in have chosen.
