  • What are we going to do?

After Wednesday, when we have our new President, whoever he may be, what are we going to debate? I always love a good debate and I've really been enjoying debating with all of you about the election. I hope that nobody has hard feelings after the election. Honestly, half the time I don't really even keep track of who said what, I just respond to the issue.

I'll likely disappear for awhile, assuming nothing crazy goes on with the election itself...

Honestly, I'm online way too much and I need more of a life....the laundry and housecleaning that could be getting done instead of me sitting here is unbelieveable. And I'll likely be licking my wounds and hoping that things won't be as bad as I fear.

Me too. I'll probably lay off the politics until at least the inauguration. This has been very intense and emotional for me. If Obama wins, I will be very happy and just want to enjoy the feeling of hope that I've been missing for a long time.

If he loses, I will be so sad and disappointed that I really won't feel like talking about it, honestly. I certainly won't want to discuss my feelings here. I don't really think it's a safe place to express what I'll be feeling.

        To be honest...

I have a feeling that I'll take a much needed break from this board and I'm sure there are some that will be happy of it. Really, I didn't realize that this board is as liberal as it is or I may have reconsidered even posting my opinions from the start. If things go as expected and Obama wins, the last thing I want to see is people gloating, rubbing other peoples noses in it, etc. I don't plan to watch one second of the election returns as I am afraid of how it will turn out for the big race, although I know the republicans will win all the state races in my state so I can rest easy on that. I admit I'm hoping for the best, but I'm fully expecting the worst when Obama wins.

I do have to laugh cause I'm sure of what will happen in 4 years from now if things aren't much improved..."4 years isn't enough to correct the 8 years under Bush".."things are better now than they would have been if McCain would've won". Hopefully, the Republicans can get their heads out of their ..... and can put together a winning ticket in 4 years.

Well then, if you can see so clearly into the future, you need read my other post and write an article for The Onion! Then we can all marvel at your powers of ESP four years from now!

Seriously though, if Obama pulls this off I will not feel like gloating. I will just feel very happily relieved that we can finally get this country going in the right direction again. However, I wish I had a dime for every time over the past 8 years a Republican told me "things would be so much worse if Gore/Kerry had won." So again, if Obama pulls this off, I reserve the right to use that line on any Republican who complains to me about Obama over the next four years.

p.s. I hope the above didn't sound sarcastic. I didn't mean it that way. It just struck me funny that you posted that just as I was posting the Onion article from 8 years ago.

It's funny that you mention this because I was just thinking about this recently . . . I remember when I first started lurking on this board and came across my first debate on abortion and was just utterly and completely shocked that women tied together by IF could be so adamently pro-choice. I literally read, and re-read and re-read that particular thread - not believing my eyes.

I guess in my tiny little conservative brain I just didn't think the two were compatible. To say my eyes have been opened is an understatement.

Each person is entitled to her opinion, that's what free speech and America is all about. I'm not going to judge anyone for his/her stance on social issues (some of my fellow conservatives here are also pro-choice). But it really took me a long time to digest what I found to be the popular view on two such divergent issues.

gloating. However, if McCain would win tomorrow, I find it very hard to believe that there wouldn't be posts here doing the same thing- hihg-fiving, saying that you (the general you) knew he could pull it off, what a great upset, how happy you are since he was the underdog, etc.

I have no plans of gloating either, cause I'd probably have a damned heart attack if McCain actually pulls this off. Seriously though, I get no enjoyment in rubbing it in whether it's in sports, elections, or anything else. The only people I'll probably say something to about it would be my coworkers as I've had to listen to them over the last couple of months about Obama this, Obama that and I'm sick of it. As conservative as South Carolina is, I had to end up in one of the most liberal office environments around.

I'd be surprised if there's gloating. People will be happy, I think but - it was never about doing down people who didn't agree - or it sholdn't have been, I think for most people it was about what they genuinely believed was the right thing to do.

More importantly, we are on the verge of what will probably be the greatest challenge of our generation. My own experience is that things that really affect our lives are too important to leave to politicans. I think what we should do - what we need to do - is to become more engaged in the issues, figure our what's important to us and then how we stand for those things in our own particular circumstances.

I know how you feel about IF and Abortion. It's like the marriage of Mary Matalin and James Carville - it almost makes no sense how the two are compatible.
