  • Obama's grandmother died....

That's really unfortunate.....His likely victory tomorrow will be a little bittersweet.

Oh that's so sad. He really has no one from his childhood to share in this with him.

thank goodness he was able to visit her

How tragic that she could not hold on for just a couple more days. That is really sad news.

As soon as I saw this news

my first thought was Oh boy, it would have been great if she could have held on for 2 more days, to potentially see her grandson win as POTUS. Very sad!

            Also,

if he wins, it is most likely going to be hard for him- wanting to celebrate his victory and at the same time dealing with a great loss.

Oh no. My heart is breaking for him right now. This makes me wish that there was a heaven so that she could watch him win.

                There just might be....

When my father died (raised Catholic), my mom went through a period where she wondered "where he was"....ya know, questioning heaven and if he just in the ground, etc. I tried to explain that hey, if there's a Heaven, Dad would've earned his entrance by living a good life and caring about others, and his soul would be with God, etc. And if there is no Heaven, then he won't know it - he'll be dead. So he won't "feel" anything, because he was cremated and there's nothing left of him. Pretty cut and dry....either way, he's no longer in pain....and that part makes me feel good.

She sounded like an extrordinary woman

I was close to my grandmother and my heart still aches for her sometimes. I hope she was lucid enough for them to have some time to be together when he went to see her last month.

                    Well you're in luck, then

I'm sure Gram will be having a party in heaven, celebrating with Obama's mom, in the event that Obama wins.

I heard this morning that she voted early for him with an absentee ballot. Which, of course made me disolve into a heap of sentimental weeping mush. How great is that?

                          Oh goodness.

What an emotional day this is going to be for him. I watched Obama's rally in VA last night and he really looked like he had been crying.

As for the absentee ballot... if you vote absentee and then pass away before election day, does your vote still count? We were discussing this at work and nobody knew the answer.

I'm pretty sure it would still count. So many people vote absentee, and there would be no way of knowing if someone died before election day. (Not to mention that there is early voting, so not all voting takes place on election day anyway.)

I saw the clip of Obama crying, too. This must be a very emotional time for him, I'm sure. I have to say I was kind of glad to see that from him. He comes across as very dispassionate to me (which I know is a plus for some), so even though it was for such a sad reason, I was glad to see the emotion from him.

I find that surprising. I see him as very passionate. It's a sort of strong, controlled passion but it's very evident to me. In fact, I often find myself welling up listening to him speak and others have shared that they do too!
