  • Alaska report clears Palin of ethics violations

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27524238/

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A report released Monday has found Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin did not violate state ethics laws by firing her public safety commissioner.

Palin, presidential candidate John McCain's running mate, has been under investigation by the state Personnel Board for the firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan.

Both investigations found that Palin was within her rights to fire Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan.
I'm surprised this managed to make msnbc - they must be slipping over there

    Tasergate is over, guys

Amen. The only person who should be convicted of ethics violations is that hack who wrote up the first investigation.

Sounds like the KGB to me. Anybody who doesn't give cover to Palin is guilty of ethics violation? Big surprise that the board she appointed finds her not guilty.

Besides, Palin claims the first investigation cleared her of all charges anyways.

Senator Stevens today also claimed he hasn't been convicted.

What a pair the two make!

Have you seen how she has nosedived in the polls? I think it is clear most Americans see the real truth about Palin.

I guess you missed this part

It was prepared by Timothy Petumenos, an independent investigator for the Alaska Personnel Board.
I'll take SP over Biden any day of the week.

I'll take an independent investigator's report released by a bipartisan committee (majority republican I think) over one released by a committee appointed by the governor herself.

No one seems to be talking about what happens next? You have two competing reports. The first by the investigation Palin first agreed to cooperate with and then bailed on and then a second by an "independent" investigator appointed by the Governor's office when she didn't like how the first investigation was going. So that's it? It goes down as a tie and there's no follow up? Is either report binding? Does either report trigger a need for further action by the state? Is it up to the Alaskan Legislature to decide if they want to pursue this? Everyone who spoke about this last night kind of just shrugged it off as kind of moot at this point because the election is here. But the lawyer in me wants to know how this is supposed to play out.
