  • Caroline Kennedy

Apparently she is on the top 10 list of individuals to consider for Hillary Clinton's Senate seat. I'm finding myself really bothered by this. Without researching her at all, I'm wondering if she is looking for a reward for giving Obama such a campaign boost? I mean, when the heck has she ever expressed the slightest interest in a political or even a public career? Being a senator for such a large and influential state is a huge job, and I can't see what qualifications she has to just step into it, other than a family legacy.

Can someone enlighten me? Has she been preparing for this for some time and I just missed it? Is she qualified? I'm not anti-Kennedy. There are certainly some who have forged impressive political careers. I'm just not seeing where Caroline has ever even been in the game.

    She's got the name

I can see how she'd be an attractive choice . . . but she was in charge of the Joe Biden choice for VP. Where is Joseph by the way? Did he get lost in Home Depot?

I don't believe Joe starts his new job until January 21. Of course, it is hard to remember that still-president Bush and his still-VP Cheney are actually the ones in office since they don't seem to be doing a lot of leading these days.

I hope not - I was very underwhelmed by her during the primaries. Apparently though they really need someone from "upstate" for th is slot.

I'm upstate, and I agree we really need some representation. But where is she? Not anywhere near here, I'm sure of it. I think she may live in Long Island?

Maybe she'll surprise me with her credentials, but right now I find it vaguely insulting that she thinks her name is enough. (And I'm probably still a little miffed that she picked BO over Hillary when the time came to endorse and now wants Hillary's seat).

Joe's hanging out at Katie's having conversations with people - you know, the restaurant that closed 20 years ago.

If Caroline was responsible for Joe that in itself would be enough to turn me off on her.

Unfortunately, Biden's been busy in Delaware doing what he does best -screwing up things. Since his son chose to honor his guard committment and not take his seat we get stuck with Biden's aid, Kaufman to take his seat. Most people felt it should have gone to Carney, who is the outgoing Lt. Gov. and would have been a good choice. Instead, Gov. Minner was so busy kissing Biden's rear that she totally screwed over Carney, who was about as loyal to her as they come(and that is what cost Carney the Govenor's race this year).

Kaufman has no aspirations of running in 2010, so basically it's viewed as holding the seat for Beau. Nice that we have someone representing us that doesn't really want the job. I'm hoping Castle decides to run for senate in 2010.

                Typical

Thanks for explaining this - I had heard something about a "seatwarmer for Beau" but hadn't taken time to figure it out. Sounds like typical cronyism.

Seriously, though - where is Joe? Guess he's not part of the transition team. Maybe not smart enough .

                Good to see ya!

Another thing that changes on January 20 - no more scapegoating GWB and the Republicans . . . because the Dems will be in charge!

Seriously, though - where is the VP-elect? Is he playing any role in the transition?

Oh, you mean he fits the conservative mold now?

I cannot believe that Caroline Kennedy is in ser ious contention for Clinton's seat. Will Patterson really do it? I hope not. I like Gillibrand, but her name does not have the firepower of Kennedy or Cuomo. IMO, Cuomo has not been much of an AG and I would not like to see him as U.S. Senator. The other name tossed about is Tom Suozzi. His geographic location will be a major hindrance. No one can claim LI as upstate no matter how clueless they are.

Biden has been there for all the major appointment announcements, he was in the meeting today with Al Gore, etc. What do you expect to see him doing right now other than helping with the transition? He's been in Chicago, with Obama, most days since the election.
