  • My Fertilization Report is in...

    Hi Ladies,

The nurse just called -- Out of the 12 embryos they got at retrieval, 10 of them fertilized (via ICSI)!!! So, they are 2-celled embryos now.

The nurse told me that they normally hope for 50-60% fertilization, so they would have been happy with 6 eggs fertilizing. I'm taking this as a great sign, and hoping this means we'll have a successful cycle.

She said they'll call again with another fert report on how they're doing.

What do you all think of this?????

Sounds good... I wonder if they will push you to a 5 day transfer? I started with around 10 when I had a 5 day transfer and ended up with 2 to freeze. Although I had success with a later 3 day transfer, so you just never know whiich is going to work.

good luck to you! I was worried you wouldn't make it this far after you had such trouble with the BCPs. so happy for you that you made it!

      Hi Laura,

Thanks for your support! I'm not sure if they will be able to push me to a Day 5 transfer because the lab closes for the last two weeks of the month. I'll definitely ask tomorrow when they call me again with my fert report.

You have a great memory re: my trouble with BCPs! I'm having the same problem now with the Estrace (estradiol) pills I'm supposed to take 2x/day. They are giving me stomach problems/discomfort, so I'm going to mention it to the nurse tomorrow. YUCK!

I'll keep you posted on how things go from here -- thanks so much for chiming in! I hope you're doing well, too.

Hi Christine. Stay encouraged. I will continue to keep you lifted in prayer. I hope you feel better on your meds. Remember, God has a plan and everything is in His hands. You never really know why some embryos survive and others do not even when egg quality looks good.

At this point you are way ahead of where I was. I had only 7 follicles and there were 7 eggs at retrieval. All of them fertilized, but by day 3 only 2 had survived. I had a 5-celled and an 8-celled embryo. Both were transferred. I am almost 7 weeks pregnant now with one embryo.

I know it's easier said than done, but try to relax. It is written in St. Matthew 14:1 'Let not your heart be troubled'. May God bless you with the desires of your heart. ---Tracee

I think its normal to lose some embryos, especially at age 36. Same thing happened to me. Its great to have 2 6 cells on day 2. I know what its like to obsess over these things though, try to hang in there.

As for waiting for day 5, the clinic will decide whats best (and assuming they are open) for you to do a day 5). I always figure they know best. There are pluses and minuses to doing day 3 versus day 5. The one time I did have a 5 day transfer they waited until the last minute to move it from day 3. But like I said before, the "perfect" 5 day transfer cycle I had was a bust (m/c at 9 weeks) and my 3 day transfer was the charm, so you just never know.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble on the estrace. Unfortunately I think you have to be on that for a while if your cycle is sucessful. But at least you aren't having to do the PIO - talk about a pain in the butt. Literally.

My vote is for a 3 day transfer. My opinion? Don't let them even consider a 5 day transfer.

Will be thinking of you today!!! BTW.. All is great with us. More later-

                  Hey Sonia,

Transfer went well today, we put back 2 grade A 8-celled embryos! Also, we have 6 other good quality embryos to freeze, but hopefully, we won't have to resort to that.

I'm on 24-hours of bedrest today, after spending most of the weekend laying down after my egg retrieval on Friday. Needless to say, I'm feeling very blah; sore legs/arms from little activitiy, sore boobs (from the progesterone), and generally just tired. Did anyone feel this way after transfer? Did you RE put you on bedrest, too?

Anyway, we're keeping our fingers crossed that we get a positive test in a couple of weeks. I'm planning to test at 10-12 days past retrieval, assuming I can hold out that long!

I'm glad to hear you're doing well, Sonia! How far along are you?

                    Christine,
I am so happy for you. I was on bedrest after both the retrieval and the transfer. I read a lot to pass the time. I was impatient and took my first hpt 8dpt which is technically too early; I got a very faint line on the test. I took the test again the next morning and again the day after that. The faint line just got darker and darker. I hope the same happens for you.

                    Best wishes,
                    Tracee

Wow, so soon, Tracee? That's excellent! Maybe I'll take a test after 8 days, too...we'll see what happens!

Thanks for all of your support.
