  • I need your prayers please!

    Hi Everyone-

I know it's been awhile (like 5 months) but I was getting pretty discouraged and needed to take a break. Anyway, I thought I would update everyone on my status. My retrieval day is this Wednesday, December 2nd. I went in for my ultrasound today and they said there is 10 big follicles that they are hoping to get eggs from. My transfer day is either Saturday or Monday, and I will take a pregnancy test December 17th. I'm hoping for a good Christmas, because I haven't had one in a long, long time!

        Hi,
I am so happy that I found this site!! I will be starting my cycle also in Dec. (most likely the 10th) It will be an FET. I had a failed cycle in Oct. and was crushed when I found out it didn't take. I am sending you positive thoughts and prayers. Please keep a good thought for us too!! It is a long a difficult journey. Heres to having a great xmas, for the both of us as well as all the others sharing our challenges.

          retrieval

          Hi Everyone-

Well, my retrieval 12/2 was successful. They retrieved 9 healthy eggs! I learned today (12/3) that 8 of them fertilized!!! I'm so excited to be the proud mother of 8 embryos! My team of doctors opted for a day 5 transfer so I will be going back in Monday. I started my progesterone in oil injections and they aren't too bad but my nurse was right-- the needle is as thick as barbed wire! I get so sad when I hear about women who have done IVF but it didn't take. This is my only chance for a child of my own. Whether it works or not, I have to have a hysterectomy. I'm trying so hard to not get my hopes up, but I really can't help it. Everything so far is going well but until my baby is in my arms I'm sure I'll be walking on eggshells. I'll keep everyone updated.

A hint about the PIO shots-

CONGRATS ON THE 8 EMBIES!!! Awesome number!

Those PIO shots were awful! OUCH!

With all the injections I had to take, we found ourselves with quite a "buffet" of needles and syringes. My husband came up with an idea that SAVED me! Suck up the progesterone with the wide gauge needle, then switch to a smaller gauge needle for the injection. It will take a bit more time and effort to get the THICK PIO through the smaller needle, but boy will it SAVE YOUR REAR!

            Good Luck!

              Pio

I have a hard time just getting the oil into the syringe with the big needle! Even after injecting air into the bottle it still doesn't want to come out. The only other size needle I have is longer but skinnier (used it for Repronex). I might have to try that tonight. Thanks for the tip!

                Best wishes!

What great news about your retrieval! Keep us updated and I hope the time flies by for you. I'm on PIO right now, so totally feel your pain. I place a cold pack on the spot for about 5-10 minutes beforehand and that really helps. I also alternate sides which I'm sure you're doing (odd days = left, even days = right). Every night I rate my dh on how painful it was, so we turn it into kind of a game with him trying to do his best . "10" is the worst and "0" is no pain. Last night was a "1" so I was happy with that!

                Good luck!

                      retrieval

Hi! The retrieval wasn't bad at all. It only took about 30 minutes and they put me to sleep for it. There was a little bit of cramping but the worst after-effect was the bloating! It was pretty bad and took about 2 days to completely go away. But I would do it again in a heartbeat!! Good luck to you!

                        waiting

For me, it seemed waiting for the process to begin was the hardest part. After I actually started my injections time flew by! Patience is not one of my qualities, but I'm learning.

Thanks for the tip about the ice pack. I never thought of that before. I wonder why they don't tell us these things? I do alternate sides but I'm definitely going to try the ice pack thing tonight.

How did it go? Hope it was less painful.
