  • Valium and transfer

Anyone take a valium before embryo transfer? Is it a bad idea to have that drug in your system or is it harmless because the embryo doesn't actually implant right away?

Forgot to ask...if you did take one, what dose?

    Thanks!

      It must be okay...

because it seems to be a standard thing for many clinics. My first clinic didn't give valium for transfers, and I was fine. My 2nd clinic did, and I was hesitant since I hadn't needed it for my first 2 cycles at my other clinic. I decided to do a smaller dose. I want to say it was 5 mg, but I can't remember for sure. I was definitely a little out of it for the transfer and just wanted to sleep afterward. Not sure if valium is really necessary, but I guess being relaxed and sleeping after the transfer can't be a bad thing!

        Hi Levana,

I already responded to your other post, but I took 10 mg before my last embryo transfer. I am told that it does not harm the embryo and it helps to relax the uterus so that there aren't any contractions.

Thanks for the response. I think I am going to take one tomorrow but just
5mg -- I'm a little nervous about taking 10mg. It didn't make you totally loopy?
