  • 3rd IVF

    Hi all,

Looks like the message board isn't too busy now but just wanted to give you guys an update on what we've been doing. Our last 2 cycles were pretty awful. The first one yielded 8 eggs and only 2 moderately rated embryos survived. They were implanted and nothing good came of it. The 2nd round was even worse. 3 eggs with 1 mediocre embryo making it to a 5 day transfer (due to OHSS) that was negative.

Our RE took the last one personally, petitioned our shared risk program not to dump us and came up with a new plan. She also found some polyps that showed up when they did one of those advanced ultrasounds (I don't know what it is called). They were not very big but we really have no idea how long they've been there. It's quite possible they were present for our last two cycles.

Anyway, long story short, we did 2 weeks of gonal-f and menopur and started ganorelix when her estrogen started to rise. We used Lupron for the trigger.

They were able to retrieve twenty-eight(28) eggs from my wife! OH MY GOD... we aren't even pregnant yet but we are ecstatic. At day 1, 12 were dividing. At day 2, 20 were dividing! Most likely we'll be doing a day 5 transfer which would be on Thursday.

We were about as low as we could get before this week. I sat in the waiting room during the retrieval with a knot in my stomach expecting poor results again. We're feeling a bit renewed and cautiously optimistic. Whether we are successful this time or not, it seems we may have a soccer team of embryos to work with for future tries!

    Wish us luck!

    Congratulations!!!

It's so very exciting when you have a good cycle and things just seem to be going well. Yay!!!! 20 dividing little guys/girls is great! How is she feeling? Must be sore...ugh.

We're doing an FET and will transfer a week after you - next Thursday. Keep us posted to how you and your wife are doing.

She was in quite a bit of pain, it's getting better though she still has a bit of a pot belly. She tells me it feels like her ovaries are made of metal and every time she took a step they vibrated.

We'll certainly be disappointed if it is not successful this round, but just the fact that now we know that we have this potential, it's such a huge morale boost. If it had been another disappointing round, I think we may have quit, at least for a time.

I know you have been having such a rough time with this too. Good luck on your FET! It sounds like your doctor is taking it personally now too.

I'm so so sorry that she's so sore. I've never had 28 retrieved (wow!), but I've been in the 20's both times. If she hasn't yet, try a heating pad...at least until you do the transfer. I hope she's feeling better - that is miserable. How are they growing today? Or is the next update on Thursday when you go in?

Yes, our dr is taking it personally. I kind of like it. We did a lining check yesterday and it was already at 12 mm, when it's supposed to be at 8 mm by this Friday! So, I got lower doses of estrogen this week...which my husband was really happy about. (Apparently, I'll be nicer?) I'll go back on Friday for another lining check and then get triggered for next Thursday. Saturday starts the progesterone shots...

We won't see any pictures until Thursday. They told us this morning that we hadn't lost any and that they were still growing.

I'd kind of like to see an image though!
