  • Variable cycle length & ovulation, IVF or natural

    Hi Doctor,

I am going to be 43 this July and am desperate for a baby of my own genetic material meaning I am against doner eggs.

I was on BC for 4years and have been TTC for over a year. I also must inform you that I have got my HSG done and my tubes are clear. My husband's semen analysis has not been done but the PCT report shows
1-2dead sperms and 0-1sluggishly motile sperms.I was getting mid cycle bleeding for 4 subsequent months but its stopped now.My ultrasound report shows a normal uterus.
My FSH was 12.2 at one time and 2.5 at another time.... yes I mean 2.5 (Pls adv if this is an error from the lab's side? or FSH can vary)
I have been having regular periods , only that the cycle length varies -sometimes it is shorter around 22 to 25days sometimes a long cycle of 38days.
    My questions:
1.Due to my varying cycle length, its becoming difficult for me to predict when I am ovulation. I was taking my BBT but its really going hawire so I stopped taking it.I have got LH OPK but due to varying length I assume I am ovulating anyday between day 8 and 21 so Its getting difficult to know when to start using the OPK.Pls advise what I should do?

2.Do you suggest for my age I should go for IVF or even IVF is hopeless and I should try naturally?

    Looking forward to your reply.
    Thanks is advance.

    Hi Kiran19,

    What does your RE say?

I'm 44 and my husband and I started our jouney with fertility meds in December. I have a healthy egg count, uterus looks good, and my husband has a good sperm count. The only thing against me....1 blocked tube and my age.

Well, I'm here to tell you that you can get pg with an IUI. I just found out today that I'm pg and I just did my 3rd IUI.

Have faith and it can happen! There are many RE's who will tell you go straight to IVF. I didn't want to do that because I have a good egg count and my husband has a good sperm count. I just didn't see the reason to go for IVF based on medical history. Now, if my RE insistant, that we would have, but she felt I had a good shot at it.

Good luck...have faith....and it can happen.

        happy for you

        Hi Darlene,
Congracts! that's great news that you are PG.
I feel nice to know there are people in my age group getting pregnant.

My FSH is in the range of 12.2- 12.70 ,based on this my gyne did recomend IUI.The problem is my DH is not willing to get semen analysis done and I do not want to take a chance if the sperm count is very low and not fit enough for IUI.
My other fertility specialist recommended IVF as this can take place with very low count.
I am quite confused as to what path to take and I do know time is not by my side.

Did you take clomid with IUI ?

        Thanks in advance.

          Hi there!!!

          Thanks...we are still in shock!

Why won't your husband take a semen analysis? It really is in the best interest for both of you...but you already know that. If you feel that you need help getting your husband to take a semen analysis, you might want to contact Liz through (INCIID). She is wonderful. Also, have you looked into joining a RESOLVE support group in your area? http://www.resolve.org/site/PageServ...=cop_arsg_home
This has been a wonderful support group for me and I highly recommend anyone going through fertility to go to one. The even have support groups for men.

My FSH was/is 10.5...on the border...but many RE's look at that as only a number. I would try IUI first, but that's me and depends on a lot of factors.

I did Clomid on my first round with IUI. My second round was follistim shots at 75 units.

Good Luck...let me know what happens.

          TGIF!!!!

            Thanks

            Hi Darlene,

Thank you so much for introducing me to Liz and the support group.
I can take online help from the support group as its difficult to find one in my area as I stay in India.

Yes, I will keep you posted and I do feel positive...all thanks to you.

            Thank you
            Kiran

                  No period for 50days

                  Hi Darlene,

Was wanting your moral support. Just yesterday I got my periods after 50long days.I was shattered as I really thought I must be pregnant just after my HSG but my HTP was negative.
I spoke to my RE and she advised me to visit her soon and go for IUI with injectables.
I will be having a talk with my husband about this.
Will keep you posted on futher developments.

I do feel light talking to someone..

                  Take care
                  Kiran
