new to this INciid
Hi, I don't really know where to start so here goes! I have pcos and was finally diagnosed about 4 years ago until then and after the only help I ever got was just lose weight and the problems would stop!! Which never helped and really brought me down for years. Since then I have been tried on clomid once and metformin once but they said I need to lose weight before they would do anything further I haven't seen any other DR. but I read so many different things on these forums and its nice to be apart of a support group. My husband and I have been trying for 7 years, so it gets a bit discouraging as im sure you all know!! Any advice or help would be welcomed with open arms thank you

Welcome
There is always someone here on the boards to help you along. I was diagnosed with PCOS in August of 2008. I can't help you with the weight side of things, as that wasn't one of my problems. I do know that I gained weight rapidly after getting off the pill and it was HORRIBLE trying to get it off. Did your dr. specify an amount he/she wanted you to lose? I know other people with PCOS that lost weight easier while taking the Metformin. I know I'm not much help with this but I would listen to the dr and start trying to lose the weight recommended. Feel free to message me anytime if you're needing someone to talk to!

Thank you so much for your reply! Well I have lost the weight before and then I gain it its a real battle!! I have tried the metformin before but he only put me on it for a month and that was about it. He never says how much just to lose the weight which I'm currently doing hopefully it will stay off this time I dropped 80 pounds at one time and the symptoms got better a little but not completely. I have been going thru this so many years but just in the last 4 or so they told me what it was that I had! So I learn something new everyday so it seems!! But thank you again for your reply its just nice to have someone to talk to every now and then that understands the same things your going thru!!

At least you know now
Well at least you know now what you have. I know how hard it is to lose weight having PCOS. It's nightmarish. Have you ever tried WeightWatchers? My regular ob/gyn told me the South Beach diet was a good diet for people with PCOS but I didn't think I could do that one. I had great success with WeightWatchers. See if your doctor will give you an amount so you can set a goal for yourself. If not, set your goal as a percentage of your body weight. (I did this and set mine at 10%) At least you would know you were working towards something definite. I hope you are having a good day!

Yeah, someone else told me to try weight watchers! Right now I am trying the adkins thing so(crossed fingers) lol. But I also heard the south beach diet was good. I may try the weight watchers if this doesn't work! So far its doing good just hard to stick with and real expensive for the most part but nothing runs cheap I suppose. I'm doing good so far. Thanks for all your help again its just great to have someone to talk to that understands. How is your day today?

My day was ok after I finally got to work. I felt drained from last week. My endometriosis was rearing its ugly head. So after I realized it was Monday and not Sunday and got to work late it was alright. If you decide to try the Weight Watchers At home its one time $99. And there is not any special food you have to buy so thats good. I think the Adkins diet is similar to South Beach. I couldn't do it because I love to eat bread too much.

I know how that goes!!! I can't keep up with the days lol!! I'm sorry about the endometriosis! I bet that sucks don't really know much about it but Im here if you need to talk!! Mine is kicking in worse these days too my shot is wearing off so and I haven't lost enough weight i guess. I heard the same thing about the south beach that it was alot like the adkins!! I do like the idea of not having to buy special food as far as the weight watchers goes. I need to find a way of life I can live with without it being a constant battle. I live in southeastern oklahoma so home cooked food is all we are raised on so you know how that goes!!

I'm from TN so I understand about the meat, taters, and cornbread. WW is definitely easy to live with it once you get in the habit of it. My preacher said it takes 6 weeks of doing something daily to make it a habit. So I think my new goal will be to try and get 20 minutes of exercise a day. Want to try it with me? As far as the endo. goes thanks it does suck. I said on a message earlier between the ovarian cysts, endometriosis, and PCOS, it's like my female parts have the plague!

Yeah I really thought about getting a second opinion for me its a little hard I don't have insurance at the moment I am native american and my health stuff is thru them I don't pay for it. But the only way you get referred out is if it is considered a medical emergency or a determent to your health and they don't consider this one there is another facility I have thought about going too its another clinic thru the indians It is just a process and it took me so long to get to this one lol that actually told me what it was. When I was 18 I was hospitalized and almost bled to death and still they didn't know what it was I know that was 10 years ago but you would think!!!! and I agree with you I can never tell a difference when I lose weight I mean of course I feel better but as far as my symptoms they still seem to be there I don't know. I would like to go see an endocranoligist I have heard they specialize in this sort of thing. I also need to start a normal everyday exercise work out It would make me feel much better I know! I have a 9 year old step son and he wants the wii fit I thought about that I played my friends son's and it is a work out but fun at the same time!! Thats what my sister did and she lost over 100 lbs in the last year she looks great and she also had the same signs of PCOS although she was never diagnosed, But she tells me now her symptoms are gone she has normal periods and everything!! So maybe there is hope. I am sorry You have to go thru so much. I really don't know much about them I am still learning everyday, I don't have some of the other symptoms of PCOS tho like the hair growth and things but I have a few of the other ones. sorry I get to yapping and Im like a tornado lol

Well I can definitely understand not getting another opinion without insurance. I got my endo. diagnosis after a 2nd opinion (My 1st gyn did not think I had it) And I didn't get a diagnosis on something else 9my bladder) till the 4th dr. Where were you bleeding? I agree with the weight loss, generally you feel better. I guess I wouldn't have periods without hormones. I see an RE and they do help with the PCOS. I have the Wii fit!!!!! My grandmother got me the wii for Christmas and my dad gave me the wii fit. I LOVE it. The only reason I haven't done it lately is because of the wretched week I had from the pain with the endo. There is always hope!!!! Be thankful you don't have the hair growth. It's not very pretty. Mine is worst on my belly. I yap too don't worry about it!

I can understand that with the pain and all, I'm sorry! I had bled like a period for three months and also had pneumonia on top of it from my blood being so low I had lost so much they gave me a blood transfusion it was crazy. I really do want a wii fit I got a wii for christmas as well from my mother-in-law I love it in general!!! I haven't had a period to date since june of last year, But in the last week I have had signs that its coming and it always scares me cause once it starts it doesn't stop unless I go and take this shot its the only thing that stops it but it also stops my chances of getting pregnant for another 6 months which I guess is not an option right now anyway, but it always depresses me so bad!!I really don't know all the meds out there and things I could bring to my Dr.s eye but usually they just turn me down and tell me to lose the weight I have done the clomid and metformin before but they won't do that right now either. So what do they do to help you? and here is I'm sure a stupid question but I have seen it alot on these blogs what is an RE? lol

A blood transfusion??? That's crazy bad! What kind of shot do you take? To help me have periods I take Provera and have taken Megace in the past (not sure about spelling on either one) for 10 days and when I stop taking it Voila I have a period. The other people I know stay on Metformin as well (I don't take it) I know it's depressing. It's an emotional roller coaster for sure. My new gyn. suggested geting on the south beach diet or adkins diet and trying to lose some weight might jump start my ovulation. My RE ( by the way that means reproductive endocronologist There are a lot of acronyms out there I have yet to figure out don't feel bad!) said I could lose some weight if I wanted to but it wasn't going to make a difference. In my particuar case, I lost the weight and it didn't matter. I'm trying to think of other things people I know with PCOS have done and I'm drawing blanks right now. I do know that before they were put on Metformin they had a fasting glucose level checked and it was abnormal. (Mine was normal) I have a friend who lost a lot of weight, took Metformin and Clomid and it worked for her. You never know!
