  • Successful IEP meeting...

Our principal is our LEA rep and she walked in the room, said "oh this is for Ellie - I LOVE Ellie." I knew then it was going to go well. That little child of mine has charmed just about everyone she could in that school. I keep saying the principal makes the school and somehow my kids won that lottery.

The OT was going to drop us, but I hesitated enough that she agreed to 6x a semester and available for consult as needed. Speech got dropped to 12 times a marking period (9 weeks).

We have resource 1x a week which I am exteremely happy about. The resource teacher is an autism specialist and I have been picking her brain since Ellie was diagnosed.

She will have the teacher that I want, who has known Ellie since she was a baby and who takes the harder kids from pre-K. Ellie will be the only one in her class from pre-K - the rest are out of district, so that is good.

So she will go to K as a 4.75 year old, she will be 5 on Oct 6 - 9 days before the cutoff that would have sent her to pre-K. I made it very clear in the meeting that I am for her repeating K next year with a different teacher and the principal said she would work with me to make sure I was satisfied. If all else fails, I will pull her and do private K again. I am OK with her going, I want to continue the speech (excellent teacher) and I want her to have this K teacher and I don't she will be there in two years.

Congratulations! I'm so glad to hear that the meeting for Ellie went well. Isn't it a joy when your team members really do love your kid?! Miriam has the charm thing goin' on too, and I'm happy to take full advantage of it when it comes to wangling services for her. Work your assets, whatever they are, right?

Our meeting is on Friday. We'll see how it goes.

Hope next year is a great year for Ellie, and for you!
