  • We got the MRI non-results back...

and nothing. I HATE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The tests show that there are no problems or abnormalities that would explain dd's growth issues. So we're just left with nothing, no medical reason why this happened.

Dd was growing fine, normally, stayed on the same height growth curve up until age 9. Prior to that, they were saying she'd be between 5'4" and 5'7" tall based on the growth curve. That seemed right to dh and I since it's right in between our heights. Then, at age 9, dd got her period. However, unlike a normal child who continues to grow through their early adolescence, she stopped growing. She's within 1/2 inch of her height at her 9 year old check up (she's now 13). It took a while to be noticed because we just figured she was due for a growth spurt to happen, no biggie. By the time it was noticed, it was too late to do anything. Her growth plates are 98% fused, and her growth hormone level is normal.

So we've been "let go" by the endocrinologist because he says there's nothing he can do. He won't try growth hormone because he says her skeleton is full grown.

She's 4'11" and also never completely developed her bust. She's the same a/b cup she's been since age 9, and that also will probably not change.

I'm so frustrated by this I could scream!!!! (I'll just join the rest of this board who also seem to be screaming in frustration!)
    Ellen

PS I guess I should add that I really am happy that there is NOT a problem with dd's brain, that it's fine and healthy. I'm just frustrated at the lack of answers.

Oh how frustrating that that MRI did not show anything conclusive to help explain your dd's growth curve since age 9.

      Glad things are normal but

I can understand your frustration. What about another consult with a different endo? At least for another opinion...It can't hurt unless your DD doesn't want to go through more tests. How does she feel about all of this?

        Hi (((Ellen)))

I was 10 when I got my period and srated needing a bra. I remember vividly how awful that was... so (((hugs))) to your daughter. At 17 I was diagnosed with PCOS, as you are too if I remember right, and both early period and breasts are huge indicators of PCOS. So with that being said, find a different endo who will take you more seriously in helping your daughter. Im sorry that her growth plates have fused so early too. My Aunt is 4'11, she is 3 years older than me, and loves being short. She tells me all the petite clothes are sooo much cuter. LOL.
        Anyway ((((big big big ))))
        Love,
        Tonya

Big hugs to you and dd

I too am glad that there is nothing seriously wrong but I totally understand your frustration at not knowing what happened. I do hope that you can find someone who will keep looking if you feel that is needed to ensure that this endo did not miss anything.

I agree about the second opinion. My sister went through 3-4 (she has a hormonal brain tumor) before she found one that wouldn't just wash hands at her diagnosis.

            I feel your frustration!

Sorry you didn't get any answers. I know how frustrated you must be. Maybe a second opinion wouldn't hurt. Hugs.

Hi Ellen. I'm so sorry you did not get any answers as to why she stopped growing. I am on the other end here, wondering when our daughter will stop, if ever, as she is super tall for her age. In both cases, there's that bit of worry about growth hormone issues.

I am sorry you are going through this but SO HAPPY her brain is okay!!! Also, my bust stopped growing at that age also!!!!! But so did Mom's bust and it's pretty normal in our family. You'd not want a huge bust if you were petite.

Our neuro warned us about MRI's when we took Leela for hers.. Some kids with great MRIs have very involved issues... other kids with "awful" MRIs function perfectly! Guess which category Leela's in? Yep, perfect MRI and 50% motor delay...

So sorry, it's so frustrating not getting any answers. It is a relief in some respects, but an answer would be the greatest gift! Many hugs your way!
