  • I got dd's inital OT eval....

On duplicating geometric shapes(copying pictures) she scored in the 5.11yr old range. On visual alone she scored w/ in her 8yr range. On the visual motor skill of tracing between lines of a drawing she scored in the 5yr range. So we have a Behavioral Vision screening Scheduled for June 2, a meeting w/ the school on May 27, and a return to the OT on June 4th. Can't wait to see what the vision screening shows.

Sounds a lot like DS (and they're really close in age - I forgot your DS was an April baby - Will is 3/27/00) though the test used might've been different. They gave him the Developmental Test of Visual Perception and he scored in the average range for "general visual perception" and "Motor reduced visual perception" but in the 9th percentile for Visual motor integration.

Was your testing through the school district, or independently? Is the behavioral vision screening something you set up, or the school recommended? We're now waiting for the elementary 504 coordinator to get to us with a meeting time.

        I did the OT independently....

Our school OT seemed very young and inexperienced w/ Dysgraphia, which is what I thought Sarah's issue was. The Behavioral Opt eval was suggested by her OT, and many here. The school may still eval her. I don't know.

Just thought I'd update you vision ladies on my dd - she went back to the optometrist today for her post-therapy checkup, and all is well with her vision! We go back in a couple months for another progress check, just to make sure nothing has changed, and that is it! I am relieved, since she hasn't really been doing her maintenance vision exercises (a few days per week for six months is the protocol; that's after the six months of therapy with daily homework); we kinda replaced vision homework with piano practice LOL. It was rough going during therapy, but it's such a relief to know that she can read clearly now

            That is so great!

All the hard work paid off! Enjoy the piano. I thought we may try some piano lessons this fall. My neighbor teaches so I thought it couldn't get much better.

Sounds like Lacey (7yrs2months). She scored at 5 yrs 11 months (18 percentile) on visual motor integration but age 8 (73%) on visual perception. Her motor coordination was 5 years as well (23%).

She recommended the interactive metronome program or astronaut training program for her to help with the motor coordination. So we are looking into that.
