  • Hi all

sorry Ive been MIA too lately. Just so busy but no idea with what. Jacob and Reuben turned 5 last Wed and Faith turned 4 2 weeks before that so maybe thats what it is.

It was a rough few weeks with parties, presents, celebrations at school, etc.

Things are okay around here. Jacob hasn't been aggressive which is good but very impulsive. He knows what will happen if he does X and just can't stop himself from doing it. He is so smart that he knows he is going to get in trouble too.

Amazingly he took naps yesterday and today and even one last thursday. I'm guessing this 2 schools a day system is getting very hard for him. He's just tired. I can't wait for the year to end because I really don't know how much he got out of the SpEd school this year.

He and his sibs are going to do camp for the summer. The first 4 weeks will be at a rec center, Kiddie Sports Camp which is from 9-12 am every day for 4 weeks. Then they move to our JCC which is 9-3 every day for 4 weeks. I think the downtime for a few weeks will be good but the longer days will help transition him to readiness for full day K a few weeks later.

We also joined a swim club near our house. Swimming is the best exercise/therapy that we have found for him so hopefully I will be able to manage all 3 by myself regularly at the pool. We will see about that.

    Thats it for me.

    Hi Karen!!

I have missed you! Your birthday's are worse than mine (August and October with Halloween thrown in there) and I find that difficult so I can only imagine the work you have for those birthdays!

I'm glad to hear the agression has not been much trouble for you lately. That eases up a few things anyway. Good luck with all the summer camp. We are doing the YMCA again which I think will work fine for the most part. We will all be swimming a lot this summer. It will be our activity of choice I think.

Hope to see more of you around here and Happy Birthday to your three!

    Susan

Thank you - for us it starts with Dh in late April and just goes non-stop through the end of June. Between that time there are 14 birthdays including the dog.

Thankfully most of the June birthdays aren't ones we actively celebrate because they don't all live locally.

Hi Karen, nice to hear from you! Sounds like you've had a really full schedule. I haven't been online much lately either, and I feel the same as you do, like there's no one thing that I can point to but somehow things are very busy. Here's to the end of the school year for all of us! I swear, I am worried that without the 8:20 a.m. school bell to keep us on schedule in the mornings, we'll all be oversleeping come the end of the year.

So your plan for next year is full-day K, mainstreamed?

It is full day K at an amazing elementary school. Both boys will be there but will be in different classes. They do family groups with k-2 classes and move the kids in that column. The boys will be in different family groups. I think it will be good for them but when I told them they got very upset.

Jacob will be mainstreamed but will get 13.5 hours of in class support and 1.5 hours of social skill small group time. The class support will be provided by a special ed. teacher or aide. They really seem to understand him and want to help him succeed. You don't always see that unfortunately. The elem. school team came and observed him several times before the IEP meeting at his preschool.

Oh, I remember your posts about the school and the team now that you remind me. It all sounded fantastic. This is the school where everyone learns ASL, right? What a terrific team and philosophy of inclusion. I am excited for you!
