  • 'Nuther school update! (m)

Ok, so my son has been going to public school for about 2 1/2 weeks now. The first week went really well, so I chalked it up to the "honeymoon" phase. Then the second week went even better than the first. I was shocked....I would have thought there would have been a crack in the armour by then. And since, each day keeps getting better and better. The class is very structured, and my son just thrives in that atmosphere (not the chaotic, pandemonium he was in before!). Even homework, while still not fun, has become so much less of a stuggle.....and it's way harder than the private school! I swear, it's like I have a totally different child. Needless to say, I'm THRILLED! Who woulda thunk it???

Last Sunday was my son's 6th b-day party, and he (we) basically got snubbed by just about everyone that he invited. We had invited all the kids from his old school, and I put "regrets only" on the invitation. Out of the 11 that were invited, 2 called w/regrets, and only 4 showed up. Nice, huh? My son didn't seem to mind, since he loved playing w/those that DID show up.

And now for a bit of gossip about the old school. I found out from one of the moms (her daughter still goes there, and was in my son's class) that a fist fight broke out in the kindergarten room last Friday. A FIST FIGHT!!! OMG.....how does that even start, let alone continue??? I guess both sets of parents were called, etc. Can I just tell you how happy I am that my son doesn't go there anymore??? That teacher is just W.O.R.T.H.L.E.S.S. She now has only 10 kids in her class, and she STILL can't control them.

Congrats!!! I am glad that things are going so well for you.

It sounds like being kicked out was a good thing for you (much better than enduring another month/summer or so there). I hope that your success continues and that you have a great summer.

I am so thrilled that it is going well. That must be such a weight off of your shoulders. For us, things are never perfect, but it is such a relief when you have a teacher who your are confident can handle anything that comes up.

A fist fight in kindergarten? huh? So, I guess it wasn't just you and your son!!

Good thoughts for more good days.

So happy to read this! The hard part with kids is that they're too young

to be able to express when something is wrong, they just act out. And, it's up to the adults in their lives to help them out, which the teacher - and administration - was (obviously) incapable of doing, and blaming the kids...... Sounds like that school had a good PR machine going, but underneath the surface not much substance.

It sounds like your son will do fantastically in his new environs! Congratulations on making the change, as scarey as it was.

I remember years ago my dd went to the "best daycare" in town - hype, hype, hype. After I pulled her out (gut instinct told me to), my brother who is a lawyer ended up with 2 cases of child neglect and injury against them.

Wishing you BOTH much success! Hugs! N

              Why yes you did! (m)

I have never been so happy to have someone else be "right" as I was for this!

                My thoughts exactly! (m)

"So, I guess it wasn't just you and your son!!"

If that school was smart (which they obviously aren't!), they would start really looking at their teachers...

Thank GOD we're out of there!!!

                  A mom's gut instinct.....

You are sooooooooooooo right! Always trust your gut. I knew my son wasn't the crazy head-case they made him out to be. I only wish I would have listened to my gut way back in November....

Like I said....better late than never.

So glad the adjustment is going well. I am so sorry for you and your ds regarding experience at previous school. I pray that the rest of the school year goes well. Keep us updated.

ps-homework usually is a hard thing for our kiddos.

                      Yay for your DS

I am so so happy to hear this update. What a difference a good school/teacher can make. He probably feels welcome and feels like he fits in here, and isn't labled "the bad kid."

I knew you were going to look back at the "expelling" as the best thing that ever happened to him. He was too good for that place!

Thanks for sharing such great news!

                        Wow!

I am so glad that things have turned out so well! That is just amazing about how great your son is doing. What an awful environment it must have been at the other school. I see wonderful things in your future!

What a wonderful update! I'm so glad to hear such great news after your poor boy had such a rough time!

That school really does need to look at itself- environment does contribute to behavior!

Wooo hooo, this is fantastic news! I was pretty sure that *anything* would be better than that old school, but it sounds like your public school is working out just perfectly! I truly believe that educators who believe that every child is worth educating (i.e., public) will be much more effectlve than those who are only willing to teach children who conform to a certain model. And it sounds like the teachers at your old school can't even handle the hand-picked kiddos!

I bet that next year's birthday party, with a new group of friends from the new school, will be even better!
